PLEASE TAKE NOTE I did stop to write about the gigs (for the moment) out of time for it it seems...BUT I love them all.
2021Oktober 26
AND THEN finally he came along, after three attempts to plan in,but because of the circumstances not possible at all. However there he was at a lovely Autumnnight October 26,just on a Tuesday ,because I could catch him just between his tour travelling further on to Germany. HOW good it was to see him back, this great musician, guitar player and singer/songwriter from Dundee(living in Edinburgh)He made an amzing night for new and goldie oldies audience. In a very intimate atmos[phere. I loved the fact he was back and he made it possible to organize another houseconcert after all this time...How special was this .....Lovely he and I are back on the road... lets hope it will be the start of lots of others to come along at Karin's lounge....
!
November 13
The whispering tree
It was some time ago since I booked them in and because I didnt see or hear
them live before it was a big surprise to find out alla bout these most
wonderful musicians.
They came from far from the other end of the ocean.USA ,although with
English &French roots.
Beautiful songs with lovely tunes. All together a very memorable night. It
seems the last of 2019 and ended so a episode of ten years lounge concerts at
my home. BUT offcourse I m not planning to stop, but its time for me to
book more gigs in for the last moment ,Finding time and space for
spontanous acts So I dont have to say “No”to musicians because I m allready
booked in for 3 years ahead, like it happened some times. SO Cheers tot he
future……..A big happening will be most certain in October 2020- 7th . SO
keep an eye at my sight…..At their site:
The Franco-American duo, which includes singer/songwriter Eleanor
Kleiner and multi-instrumentalist Elie Brangbour, craft richly immersive
folk-rock brimming with evocative lyrics, nature imagery, perspectives from
travel, and a panoramic musicality that encompasses traditional folk, indie
rock, classic rock, and 1960s pop and rock n’ rolln............
October 30
GreenMatthews
Yeh then the lovely duo from Good Old England: Sophie Matthews &Chris
Green came along to play at my lounge.
It became a really superb autumn night with lots of
stories, tunes, songs&interaction . AND it was amazing how many
instruments they could play .The atmosphere at my lounge changed easily in
times from the past.
The history of music it all was there!!
How lovely to catch them back, after their performance at my lounge during
a double set&session with Joseph Peach,Charlie Grey&Mabel Duncan some
years ago.
They know so well how to tell all the stories around the songs &tunes. I
really loved it and the audiece thought it was very enjoyable too.
October 13,Sundayaftertoon
And the there came the brother of Tommy ,who came along a few years ago:
Colum Sands from the big name family Sands .
Very Irish, with loads of storytelling and great Irish ,most of them
selfpenned songs. He was very good in the interaction with the audience
and a very sympathic man.
Good to listen to ,a good choice of songs he did make ,with lots of chorusses
to.
Although not that many people in ,helas ..there was a good atmosphere & a
lovely jamsession there came afterwards too
Thanks everybody who joined in there too.
YEH it really was something this last Sundayafternoonconcert of the
concerts at my lounge with the man from County Down :Colum Sands !!
His site tells us : Colum Sands is a universal storyteller who draws on a long Irish
tradition of poetic musicality to weave songs for the world.
Colum Sands has performed in over thirty countries around the world, confirming
the universal appeal for the songs and stories with which he observes the minute and
often humorous details of life.
A member of the internationally renowned Sands Family from County Down,
Colum established his reputation as a songwriter with the release of his first solo
album, Unapproved Road in 1981. Songs like Whatever you say, say nothing, and
Almost every Circumstance were soon in the repertoire of artists from Billy Connolly to
Maddy Prior and June Tabor.
Sunday afternoon ,Sept 8 .
And then Simon Kempston, the lovely guitarist and singer/songwriter from
Dundee(living in Scotland)Edinburgh was back in town.SO happy he came
back to my lounge. A wellknown musician by the audience by now and a real
friend for me & my family I was so happy to see him once again. What a
lovely time we al had. The way he is singing and playing I do like very much.
And I love the way he tells the stories around his songs. Special the one
around Marcus is very funny. Happy times we had with Simon last
November ,when he did take Robbie Greig, the great fiddelplayer of Tannara
once to my lounge to play the set&session 7 .And when he was there to
celebrate my 100st gig in March 2017 as he came the first time in the middle
of my Christmas decorations, with a support of the formely Teetotallers. And
happy times now....Not that many people as an audience ....BUT a lovely
atmosphere....Thanks all who joined in and thanks Simon for coming over
once again to my little lounge...!!
Fridaynight July 12
Julie &Andreas
We all had a really superb duperb time with the amazing duo from Norway
:Julie &Andreas.Very good musicians with lovely instruments ,the
bandoneon in combination with the harp did bring in a really beautiful
atmosphere. They did bring the audience in a very enthousiatic mood. From
Celtic,Norwegian ,self written tunes and some lands of South America. In
fact it was a premiere of two kinds: first musicians from Norway and first
time a real bandoneon into my lounge. I did enjoy all the moments, and so
did the audience, which was prooved by the long applauses and standing
ovation in the end. Thank you so much Henry Mensink for bringing these
two musicians on my path. And big thanks to all those lovely people, who
did bring a full house again. And very special it was to listen to the
jamsession afterwards ,although small ,lovely with Maarten &Lenneke ,his
cousin on the fiddle together. And so good to see Jan Nijkamp back !!
March 16&17 2019
AND then finally the special birthdayweekend in combination with ten
years folk in the lounge was suddenly there Loads of preparations were
made for this all But it most certainly was all worth it Many people were
involved ( musicians, helpers, guests&audience) they all were marvellous
Thank you all so much for being there and take part of it all Saturday March
16 th we started at 17.30h to welcome the guest with soup&sandwiches
instead of the normal coffee&tea ( Thank you so much Els Walenburg for
the amazing pumpkin soup When everybody was settled in and sit down it
was time for me to speak a few words in memory of the lovely regular
folkguest of my lounge :Linda van Twist , who passed away recently so
unexpected Thanks to Hoss Wilstra for his lovely text Then time to change
for happy times to start of the celebrations of ten years folk in the lounge
with the wonderful Amelia Hogan , all the way from USA a Lady with Irish
roots , singing like an angel In good company of Simon Oak and happy to
play on the boroughed shrutibox from Hans Ensing After that it was time for
the wellknown for my lounge Pete Melodeon ( Grassby) special back for
this weekend from
England A very pleasant man and a lovely musician and singer Ever so good
on all different instruments and the hammered dulcimer is still one of my
favourites The last part of the evening was filled in by the very good duo
from Scotland & Denmark : Stephen ( former McCalmans) & Pernille
Quigg Well knows to my lounge also and How lucky I was to catch them
back After all this performances there was a wonderful final cause all the
artists came back on ‘stage’ to sing the heartwhelming wellknown song from
Robbie Burns : Wild mountain thyme I loved it !!! The jamsession
afterwards was also a big happening cause many people were able to stay in
to listen or to make music THANK YOU all so very much for making this
celebration of ten year folk in the lounge so lovely for me! Then it was
Sundaymorning March 17 th About ten people were able to help me with the
preparations in the lovely Zeeheldentheater in de Trompstaat Because of Jan
Erik Noske it was all possible to use this place How handy & clever Jan
Nijkamp was ,assisted by others to make golden ballons on a string And in
no time there was a place ready for celebrating And there was a good reason
for it cause my mum & me were 150 years together So the party was called :
Karin& Rietje 150 Lots of people joined in , family & friends and lots of
folkies It was really superb to realize so many people were able to make time
to join in this day The party started with : Voorheen echte mannen ( duo of
Henk Dorrestijn & Rene Swaab ) They came before at [email protected] circle nights
Great lyricus& entertainment After that is was time to listen to Musonius (
Martijn Breeman ) wonderful troubadour Many times at my Summerfolk
parties in my lounge How nice he is working at a cd now .. Then there was
the Maarten Willems trio this time without Frank Verlaan , but with Frenk
van Meeteren Allways a pleasure to listen to them Lovely songs & tunes
.which stay in your mind , even when they were finished .Then time to dance
with caller& musician Pete Melodeon ,who once did do this for me before at
an English dancing afternoon in the Musicon Once again it was great So
great Jos Koning & Leo de Kruis decided to play with Pete .So this became
the shortest excisting band ever ( just about 45 minutes ) like Leo said .The
dances & music were absolutely great After a little break time to go on with
a lovely man from UK ; Terry Helyar wellknown in The Hague by organizing
gigs in cafe de Stamboom and quiet a regular visitor to my lounge A
musician with a beautiful voice and he even took his grandkids on stage
How wonderful was that Then it was time for 2 man of the group de Vaste
gasten ( Jos & Leo ) allready in full set at my lounge last November NL
folkband from Nijmegen Once again they were marvellous And also the no-
folkies in the audience were very enthusiastic about them After that one if
my favourite Irish singer/song writer came in stage How I love his songs &
tunes And How lovely it was that once again he performed the song special
once at request for Lara : Black is the color I loved it The afternoon went by
quickly and finally it was time for the great musician Frenk van Meeteren
accompined by Ruud Schoemakers , amazing at his instrument ! Finally
there was the Réunion of the folkband Kings Galliard without Jørn v d Plas ,
but with the lovely singer Sharon Bradley A really lovely surprise AND they
were great ! In the end there was another big surprise organized by Maarten
Willems to sing me his song inspired by me : Het leven is een feest How
wonderful all the artists joined in for that song all together at stage It did
make me all so happy ! Thank you all so much to be a part of this !! UNDER
this article there will be the info I did write down about the artists to
announce them before they performed :
Amelia Hogan
Amelia Hogan was singing before she could walk. She sings traditional Irish
songs of the Sean-Nos or Old Style, plus Scottish, British, American, and
Contemporary folk music with lilting grace and a subtle power. Much of this
music is meant to be sung by the fire to a very intimate audience. You'll be
transported into another time and place where the banshee cries and lovers
embrace. Haunting melodies, stirring passion, and evocative storytelling is
what you'll find. Transplants: From the Old World to the New is her 2013
recording with guitarist Ray Frank. She has performed from Oregon to New
York, Ireland to San Francisco and back again. Slàinte!
Pete Grassby
As a performer Pete seems to adapt to any club audience and present a
suitable
and enjoyable mixture of material, from the unaccompanied ‘Bad Times just
Around The Corner’ by Noel Coward, to Ledbelly’s ‘Alberta’ on guitar. A
typical first half set will include melodeons, an unaccompanied ballad, some
Hammer Dulcimer and a couple of chorus songs! Recently, an interest in
story-telling has developed from his joke telling abilities.
The Quiggs:
Stephen Quigg
Stephen Quigg has long since established himself on the Scottish folk scene
and after more than thirtyfive years of singing, he is still dedicated to the
music and the songs of Scotland. Stephen accompanies himself on guitar
and bodhran (occasionally also the banjo when he remembers to bring it)
and with an outstanding voice, you can watch him capture the attention of
any audience. Through wit, charm and an obvious love and respect for the
music he delivers, Stephen has gained many constant followers, who travel
regularly to his gigs in Scotland and beyond.
PERNILLA QUIGG
Pernille Rützou Quigg
is originally from Denmark but has been living on the west coast of
Scotland for the past 13 years. She released her debut album ´Driftwood´
in 2012 and has since released two albums ´River of Time´(2015) and ´Seeds I
didn´t Sow´(2017) as part of her duo with her husband Stephen Quigg. The
Quiggs now live, love and work together most of the time in harmony ;-) and
can be found roundabouts on the folk scene in Scotland and abroad.
VOORHEEN ECHTE MANNEN
gaat Martijn Breeman schuil.
Summerfolkparties in mijn lounge.
MAARTEN WILLEMS TRIO
Is Frank Verlaan ,Gerjan Kaijen en Maarten Willems .Bekend van diverse
optredens op diverse locaties. Altijd mooi geschreven liedjes door Maarten
himself. Met een knipoog naar het leven. Over geboorte ,dood en de liefde .
Vaak voorkomend uit een gedicht. Soms geinspireerd op bestaande
situaties.
PETE GRASSBY ,caller, musician&singer. Leading the ceilidh.Great
entertaining last time for my dance party in MUSICON ,Dec 2015 . Back
again for my special birthdayweekend. (As he is in my lounge to perfom Sat
night March 16).
TERRY HELYAR
Well known in UK as organizer, playing&singing. Recording&leading
jamsessions.Starting to be wellknown now in The Netherlands too. First as
my audience, now as organizing
lovely music meetings in Cafe de Stamboom as folk&easy listening nights.
How I love his voice and what a special moment it was, when he did
deticated the song :If you were het only girl in the world to me at one of the
nights at my place. Feel lucky he was able to play at my party too.
VASTE GASTEN (part of:Jos&Leo)
Doorgewinterde muzikanten van weleer streken afgelopen herfst neer in
mijn lounge.
DAITHI RUA
So happy On of my favourite Irish singer/songwriters did say yes to my
question to be a part of my special birthday celebrations. For my lounge he
was the one who started the cuddle with sheep and made him into a
mascotte .AND the only one who played six times at my lounge. The first
time he performed was in 2009,so by that he became the first male musician
from oversea to play at my little loungeRemarkable: Daithi Rua ( David
Donegan) means Iers voor 'Rode David'
FRENK VAN MEETEREN
Welbekend in Den Haag en ver daar buiten ,de werkelijk geweldige
muzikant Frenk van Meeteren. Onlangs aangesloten als lid van Dutch
Swing College band. In bezit van een groot muzikaal verleden. Mijn eerste
lieve vader Maarten Pronk.
zijn string band The Crooks .Deze band speelde 10 jaar samen. Prachtig
KINGS’S GALLIARD (part of,vandaag hier: Jan Erik Noske,Lenneke
party ,georganiseerd in 2009 The wonderful folkgroup from Den Haag
maakte eind jaren ‘70 furore in the folkscene.
Legendarische tijden ,De band maakte diverse tours o.a. naar Denemarken
LOVELY to see them today !!
Vicki Swan &Jonny Dyer
Sunday afternoon
Januari 27
What a lovely time we all had with the most wonderful folkduo from
England/half Swedish/Scottish combination.
The wellknown : Vicki Swan&Jonny Dyer.
Its nice to realize Maarten Willems and me were in the beginning of the start
of playing nickelharpa by Vicki.I remember the day in 2006/7 ?? she said on
stage at Warwick folkfestival;”I do have a new instrument and I will like to
play on that a lot in future” And she did explain something about this
amazing instrument the nickelharpa and played a tune on it. By then she still
was much involved in the Scottish smallpipe and whistles. Which she also
played so well.
Although there was no time for those instruments to play at in my lounge
yesterday
Because there were so many tunes and songs to play with her 4 !!!( Vicki did
announce them well)different nickelharpa’s .
For years Vicki did make nickelhats for her project…to buy a new
nickelharpa AND she did manage to do so.
Nice to see two people of my audience still wearing them, cause they bought
them once, as I did and still every winter when the weather becomes cold ,its
so warm to put on and I feel lucky I did buy
They were once again amazing. They came for he first time to my lounge in
the summer of 2010 for my second Summerfolkparty. Its was the only gig at
that moment and how happy I was that they said yes to my offer and only
came for one gig all over to the Netherlands.
Most happy to realize that nowadays since then, they are able to maken
bigger tours in Holland &Germany. Cause they are worth it. They came for
the 5th time to my home and only one other musician (Daithi Rua) did one
more… SO hopefully ,who knows they will come again in future to play
another time.
Very special to listen to a lovely big new instrument Jonny did play on.
Lovely audience and so nice to see another FULL HOUSE again, after some
gigs with just a few people around a nice change for the better.
Thanks all for the great help to make the buffet to a succes .AND what a
great sesssion afterwards it was. Thank you all dear people, who played all a
part in this really superb duperb winterafternoon.
Gullane&de Jong
Zaterdag 12 januari 2019
Op hun site : Gullane & De Jong, from Roy Gullane and Erik de Jong. Roy is a
Scotsman living in Groningen, The Netherlands. From here, he plans tours for his
long existing and famous band the Tannahill Weavers. In Groningen, he also met
Erik in O’Ceallaigh’s Traditional Music Bar, the place to be in Groningen for
Irish/Scottish musicians. Erik is also an experienced musician, and founder of
FolkMuzikant.nl.
In 2007, Roy and Erik decided to form a duo, most suitable to play in folkclubs and
on festivals. They try to bring Celtic music with as much variation as possible, using
different kinds of instruments and by playing all kinds of tunes as well as singing
songs (or a combination of both). We hope you’ll like our first album ‘Jink and
Diddle’ (2014).
The first gig in my lounge in 2019 was played by the wonderful Roy Gullane
from the Tannies and the amazing Erik de Jong . I allready found out by
listening to their cd they are a marvellous.duo.AND they did proove to be
so…
It was great to see Roy back at my home after 5 years…This seems to be this
rythme to play here, cause the first time he came along was in December
2009, back in 2014 (both solo) and now in 2019 with Erik.
They makes a fine combination. The tunes Erik plaed made the performance
even stronger I think. And how lovely it was they way they made the
interaction with the audience together. Beautiful songs, great chorusses with
the audience.energectic tunes it did made the lounge into a very lively
Scottish atmosphere.ready to dance .It all fitted in perfectly. Afterwards
these lovely musicians even did find loads of energy to play with lovely
musicians from the audience to play a really superb jamsession, which did
make it possible to dance in the middle of the lounge. I loved dit…!
Thank you Roy&Erik and thanks all very much !
Daria Kulesh
December 2018
And there was the last gig of the year for her&me.
She was born in Russia ,living in UK now and came from London all the
way by bus. It was exciting to catch her from the Central Station and apart
from the lovely performance she gave on Saturdaynight it was a very big
pleasure to spend a weekend with her too.
What a most wonderful voice she has, what a wonderful way of laughing.
Telling the stories around her selfpenned songs,it was all amazing…
She enjoyed to give all the attention to the people when they want to have a
chat with her.
Also very special to see her artwork too.
Very interesting also to learn some Russian words, as she herself was
curious to know the Dutch words. How special it was the song she teached
the audience with the encore. We all were in the right atmosphere.
Great she enjoyed the jamsession too and lovely to share this with the
people who were able to come to the lounge once again. Very multicultural
we became by new faces of her Russians friends and the student from the
Phillepines. A big thanks to all of you !!!
Phil Hare ,December 2018
And then it was Christmas atmosphere in my lounge and time for the first
concert in December .
The lovely Phil Hare was able to return to my lounge ,cause he had gigs in
Belgium too,on that Sundayafternoon with his lovely wife Stephanie.
A great guitarist with a lovely voice.
Even more special cause he came back after quiet a few years.
Good te realize that he did make real fans the last two times he performed at
my place. And superb to see Richard Schoon back in this case.
Phil once again proved to be a very good musician with lots of umor and
storytelling between. Songs&tunes who settled down in your head.
It all felt very good once again.
Hope to see more of him in future times !
Vaste gasten
In Karin’s lounge.
Zondag 25 November 2018
duo genoot Anouk Platenkamp : Plaisir d’amour/-versus liedjesschrijver
Maarten Willems.
Zelf schreef Jos hierover:
Anthony John Clarke
Zondagmiddag Oct 7 -2018
He finally came to my lounge last Sundayafternoon; Anthony John Clarke.
He was waiting for that a long time, which was amazing, cause he is such a
lovely musician and a big name too. BUT somehow it ditnt fit in all over the
years. Well in the end it worked out perfectly ok…And he was worth waiting
for.
…WHAT a great musician,what a lovely lyrics,tunes ,storytelling,jokes
amking and performances and above all :
WHAT a wonderful man. It was lovely to catch him for my lounge.
I felt very happy after this afternoonconcert in this last real season.
Thank s all who joined in and stayed for the session afterwards too. It was
good ! Underneath you can read a good part of his biographie&reviews
about him.
Singer / songwriter
In 1996 on a beach in Enniscrone Co. Sligo, Anthony John Clarke sat down and
spent an hour and a half writing “Tuesday Night is Always Karaoke” now a folk
classic, but you’d be mistaken to judge this body of work on these 90 minutes. Hard
on the heels of this song followed “The Broken Years” & “The Only Life Gloria
Knows”, just two of a 15 Album catalogue of songs that guaranteed this wordsmith a
place in the heart of the folk scene.
” Anthony John Clarke is the real drop, he understands songwriting and the light
and shade” - Colum Sands
The Man Himself AJC
Anthony John Clarke: (Singer/songwriter, sublime raconteur.)
"We all look at life, people and things. Anthony John knows how to SEE what we
look at, and uses his depth of compassion and insight to write songs which make us
look again. Like tidal water, he is gently but inexorably powerful."
--- Simon Nicol
" He can charm his way into your affections before the first song is finished"
---Ian Bruce
"Anthony John makes you feel every emotion. Absolutely fabulous entertainer!!!!!"
----Jenny Williams
Anthony John Clarke: (Singer/songwriter, sublime raconteur.) You think he is
singing a love song and all of a sudden he turns it into something else.
---Alan Power
Not only has he written four of the most popular songs on the folk scene – ‘The Only
Life Gloria Knows’,
‘The Broken Years’, ‘Walking On Sunday’ and the immortal ‘Tuesday Night is
Always Karaoke’, but he remains
in essence the reason that folk clubs and festivals continue to thrive!
He is hilarious, serious, compassionate, irreverent, brave, challenging, and a proper
guitarist with an instantly recognisable voice.
Johnny Campbell
Zaterdagavond 15 September
And then it became the start of a new season (probaly the last
“real”one)cause I like to go on ,but more in a spontanous atmosphere, instead
of planning ahead for more then 2 ½ years as it became sometimes…..
This new season which will be ending in March 2019 allready. cause there
will be a big celebration time of special birthdays and 10 years folk in the
lounge….
.After that gigs are allready planned in for Autumn 2019
After that ONE BIG SURPRISE ….Keep an eye on my
site and facebookevents ,and check your mails/messengers regular, when you r on my
list…..so you will be updated anyhow…
Coming back to this musician from Manchester ,wasnt he great?
The way he choosed all those lovely songs&tunes. And his own material
very good also.
I was very happy I was able to let him perform at my lounge, since he was
touring around in The netherlands and could find a gap between……perhaps
we will see and hear more from him in the future. I most certainly hope so.
Thanks to the people who were able to join in this evening, although helas it
wasnt a full house at all…it was very nice filled in with enthusiastic people …
so happy about that too.
Lovely jamsession afterwards with beautiful whistle music from Gert van de
Slikke,Maarten Willems on fiddle, Jolande at spoons, Engelberthus Pronk
great singing and Jan Nijkamp with his lovely voice…Thank you al lso much !
Summerfolk 10
June 16-2018
ABOUT
SUMMERFOLK 10
Miriam Erasmus wrote : There are few people who have "put their necks
out" as much as Karin Pronk for their love of folkmusic. 10 years ago she
realised there was nowhere to hear folk music in The Hague, so she took a
leap of faith and invited her favourite folk artists from UK and Nederlands
into her lounge to entertain her like minded friends. It is a great success, and
many of Folk's top artistes have sung here. This is my 3rd visit, and may be
her last Summerfolk. What a super day to look forward to xxx
SO this became the tenth Summerfolk and most possible the last one (for a
few years, cause you never know) BUT it seemed really to hard to fill in the
lounge at June, so in the end there were allmost more artists then audience.
Although that fact didnt really matter, because there were so many artists it
could really filled in the room and the atmosphere was really superb
duperb. And lucky me I was sponsored by Elly Goos and Maarten Willems.
We start the open mic exactly on time at 16 h with the wonderful Ian
Hartwell, new to perform at my lounge ,an Englishman living in the Hague
and well known in the Cambridge folk ambiance…great stuff to listen too….
Then was followed by the amazingly Gwendolyn de Boer, who played at her
harp so well again and change the lounge into a very intimate setting with
her most lovely voice…..
They both could play 5 minutes longer, cause helas at the last moment Bart
van Beeveren with friends couldnt make it to join in…
Maarten &me finsished it off by singing the lovely sweet romantic song Ïets
goeds komt ook onverwacht”,he wrote to me almost 12,5 years ago ,when I can
into his life and which I sung at his special birthday party in 2018,making the
link to hopefully my special birthdayparty in 2019 coming .Keep an eye at my
site and fb events.
After a small break it was time to listen to Robert Lane, a very good
singer/song writer from Birmingham who waited quiet a long time to get his
chance to perform at my lounge. He was good ! Lovely to listen to and he
gives it a bonus to play also at the jamsession afterwards with one of my
favourite songs “Goodnight Irene”
Then it was time for the garden buffet, so nicely made by Sheri, Mim’s
daughter ,who helped me with the whole happening so very much.
After the buffet time for the most wonderful Lady of the folk Miriam
Erasmus, coming back fort he third time to my lounge ,celebrating her special
birthday too. This time she played a long set and ….Once again she was
superb. Her choice of songs &tunes, her chorusses &interaction with the
audience it was all we wanted…
Short break and then two sets with interval from HECLA,that amazing
young Scottish folkgroup Maarten&me spotted last summer playing at
Ullapool, next to Joseph Peach &Charlie Grey. Wonderful to catch them
finally for my lounge and a little emotinal too, cause we saw them just a few
days before Maarten got his heartattack and it was because of them we think
Maarten did feel so well in Scotland on that campingsite, because they give
him the right energy at the right moment…Otherwise….
Lovely music played with great energy, bringing us back tot the Highlands of
Scotland.
Great jamsession after too. Thank you al lso much who did made this all
possible. !!!A good way to ending this last Summerfolk end of season party !
Last night fun ….
Sunday afternoon May 13…Mothers day…
BUT in the end some people could make it and said I was their mother of
the loungeconcerts. SO that was a honour to be.
Because of Liesbeth Peeters I was able to catch this great trio of musicians…I
came back from my Scarborough holiday in time and it was totally worth….It
was an amazing afternoon with last night fun….Who is: (from their site)
Chris Sherburn and Denny Bartley bringing their unique sound to audiences across
Europe and America since the early 1990s, when a chance meeting at a music
session created one of folk music's most enduring partnerships.
Known for their soul stirring songs, exhilarating tunes and a love of the craic, Chris
(concertina) and Denny (guitar and vocals) ensure that no two concerts are ever the
same.
Chris grew up surrounded by folk music of all kinds - his home was a regular haunt
for passing folk singers and musicians. Denny, born in Co. Limerick, is drawn to the
inheritance of age-old slides, slow airs, slip jigs and wild reels.
Founder members of the band Last Night's Fun which received international
acclaim and a loyal fan base over 11 years together, the duo are now joined by the
wonderful fiddle player and singer Emily Sanders. Emily brings magic
accompaniment and beautiful harmonies
It was the first time Emily played in The Netherlands,so I was very lucky
….Hope to catch them back one day, cause it was absolutely wonderful.
Thank you so much all who joined in and special thanks to casper de weerd
who came in to enjoy himself and made pictures too ,thinking it was the
party of the season ,cause of the name last night fun …..
Kyle Carey with Erin Martell
Sundayafternoon April 15
And back she came this most wonderful singer/songwriter from USA ,who
called herself in the genre of Gaelic Americana.; Kyle Carey Because she
loves the Gaelic language and went to live at the Isle of Skye to learn it
properly ,sho she could sing into this beautiful language. And she most
certainly does. A lot of songs sounds in the lounge, a capella and with
guitar.
And in the lovely company of a new face for the lounge the lovely lady Erin
Martell from Cape Breton ,Canada. It was a superb surprise to catch her for
my lounge too. She opened the first set with two great songs and gave me her
cd afterwards ,which I allready put on the player in the evening and which
sounds amazing. So does Kyle’s third cd….Beautiful ….So was the whole
atmosphere of two very enthusiastic Ladies .
Kyle said she like dit so much to come back in my lounge And its bizar to r
ealize that really 5 years went by when she came first time, that time in the
company of Craigh Werth, a great musician and Ronnie Goodin ,who was
planning to come along also this time, but because of troubles with a
complicated broken leg they decided they have to short his tour,so no
Ronnie helas. But like he wrote to me Kyle &Erin did also very well without
him.
Very enjoyable afternoon with a totally different jamsession after, cause this
time it seems there weren’t that much musicians to play .Lucky me there
were still two Ladies who did,so we could enjoy the playing together(never
meet before) of Adri Richter, who is into Robert Burns now with Joke
Verdoold, who played so nice at her lovely harp.
A bonus was the performance of Desiree Jansen, a new upcoming Dutch
writer who did introduce her first novel :”vrij onder de sluier” She even
changed herself into a Lady of Saoedie-Arabia and did her act in Dutch
AND English too. So Kyle and Erin could also understand the whole story .
Thanks all ! And special thanks to Jessica Willems&Willem Bakker who
helped me so much during this afternoon.
Fred Piek/Maarten Willems trio
Greg Russell&Ciaran Algar
March 25 –Sunday afternoon
With those lovely musicians. One of my favourite English folkduo’s
Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar
WHAT a party it was to catch them again for my lounge.
As Greg came solo for the first time at September 2014 ,he said;”when this
gig will work out I ll come back another time with me mate…”
AND so he did, he celebrated my Summerfolkparty 8 with Ciaran Algar in
June 2016 It became happy moments AND so they were yesterday.
Because they are amazing.!! Such a most impressing beautiful voice Greg
Russell has
Such a wonderful amzing fidlle player Ciaran Algar is (I do like his voice too,
very impressed when he started the song he wrote himself.
Great jokes, great interaction and lots of chorusses came along at this
afternoon in the Spring of 2019.
Even the wheater was good to us, so we could have a break in the garden
,which was nessecary cause it was a full house. Which made me happy and
the boys from Sheffield and Manchester deserved so much
Lucky me I hope to be able to catch them at Sidmouth folk week this
summer. Allready looking forward, cause listening to these muisicans with
their choice of music ,their voices and playing does make me smile all the
time and brings the sun in my life. !!
Thanks to all who joined in and tot he wonderful Greg&Ciaran
Hope to see you many more times in future.
Katryn Roberts&Sean Lakeman
WHAT a lovely way to celebrate Valentine’s day this Februari 14 with the
performance of the wonderful duo :Katryn Roberts&Sean Lakeman from
Devon at my lounge.
They did make a really lovely performance with a good choice of all different
songs and tunes.
The atmosphere was very cosy and it was good to discover “new” and “old”
faces among the audience.
I felt honoured they found my home to play in during their first real tour in
The Netherlands. A nice combination for them to be able to take their lovely
twingirls with them to discover something more from the history and
sightseeing in Holland.
Lovely time together with me and family&friends before and after the gig
was a bonus.
Like Koen and Dick from Zaandam folk said after the gig they played their
last Sunday.IT was really something very very special Thank you ever SO
much for coming along Katryn&Sean and all the people from the audience
once again !!!
I did enjoy all the moments
CRAOBH RUA
What a good idea it was to catch Craobh Rua back at my lounge What n
amazing band they are The way they played all together , the jigs&reels ,the
tunes&ballads songs it all was a very good mix From very much energic
dancing tunes ( How lovely it was to dance once again with Maarten
Willems at my kitchen ) over to romantical songs ...it was all sorted out so
well by these lovely sympatic musiciand from Ireland They really did
transform the totally full booked cosy lounge into Ireland ... it did feel soooo
good as did the so special sound of the uleannpipe played so well this great
slow air ... The atmosphere all together waa very cosy indeed We all did
enjoy the buffet stuff brought by many and made by the host Afterwards
there was a very nice jamsession although the band was only able to stay for
a very short meet & greet It didnt really matter cause people were happy
anyway Enjoyed the moments Special thanks to Rieke & Cora who sorted
out and prepared the buffet table And to Joost and Maarten making such
wonderful picts once again !!
FLOSSIE MALAVIALLE&CHRIS PARKINSON
Flossie Malavialle &Chris Parkinson
And the she came back to the lounge :Flossie Malavialle
This lovely Lady musician from France, living in UK and also British now
with the great player Chris Parkinson living at Whitby for 30 years.
Many people cancelled this concert at the last moment, but luckily enough
other people helped to get the lounge filled in with others.
Because of fever and cold Karin wasn’t able to hosted as she liked to do.
BUT so lucky with the people who helped to step in for her So everything
could go on as normal .
Special thanks to organisator Maarten Willems, helping as always ,the
“boterkoek”baked and brought by Willem Bakker and the support and
helping hands of Jessica Willems & Lara van Kouwenhoven It wouldnt do
without them SO it all did work out in the end.
And the show could go on for Flossie and Chris, who were knackered
themselves because of a rough night not sleeping at the ferry ,they did
manage to perform a once again lovely gig.Great voice sounded in the
lounge once again ,combinated with great tunes .
Despite the flue in Januari it seems to be a lovely night for those who could
manage to come along.
The session seems to be very compact ,but Maarten Willems and Simon Oak
did play very well together……!Thanks.
DAITHI RUA ,with Katja van der Poorten
2017 Dec 9
Daithi Rua with Katja van der Poorten
The last gig of this year
AND the HE came back. One of my favourite Irish singer/songwriters
Who was so kind to come along when I just started with this houseconcerts
in 2009.
He was the first male musician at my lounge from elsewhere and it was he
who started this funny habit with sheep,So I ended with a real mascotte for
my lounge and got of lot of amazing picts with him too.
After his start at my lounge he was doing other opening of the seasons
concerts for some years after and so it happened he performed at my lounge
for the SIXTH time….
He found it more space now cause he didnt have to play in my kitchen
anymore.
With support other times from the former Teetotallers and later on Tijn
Berends he was now without support ,but with the lovely Katja van de
Poorten from Vlaanderen ,who played so lovely on her fiddle to give some
songs of Daith even more power.
The live cd he sold about this songs with Katja_Live at Mechelen is amazing
good !
Like the night was amazing good…once more…..
It was also lovely to realize that so many people of the audience were brave
enough to ignore the badly heavenly wheater forecast and were still able to
come,
So no worries about the expectede snow I could give this really superb
duperb singer a well filled in lounge.
New songs&old songs came at my lounge and it all was so good to listen
too.
How I love his lyrics ,his entertaining and his voice. !!
Also very special to listen to dedicated songs to one of my daughters and me.
Thank you so much Daith and Katja…please come along again…
WINTER WILSON
Okt 2017
What a superb duperb night we had, just on a Thursdaynight in October.
Cause Winter Wilson was starting their tour in Germany and were able to
come along before that to perform at my lounge.
People told me about them ,how good they were etc etc.I listened to you
tube But to be honest I didnt hear them live performing before .So what to
expect?
Well it was overwhelming to hear them sing at my lounge. I love their voices,
so pure and honest,so folky I love their songs, their lyrsics, the choice they
make from singing songs from other musicians. Very touching the way they
told their stories, about two musician I adore very much and who recently
left this life,a lost fort he folkscene: Nick Keir and Vin Garbut.
Very special to Kip and Dave theirselves. Cause as Kip told :”Once upon a
time Nick was Kip’s boyfriend and after that episode they were able to stay
good friends.
And Vin helped them out and starting much up fort hem He said several
times at a folkclub “Why on earth you didnt book in Winter Wilson in ?”
And after that there came a telephone call quite often from the folkclubs to
invite them .
Kip &Dave living in Lincolnshire now. Dave has his roots, as for Kip she
could understand a little Dutch,(and warned us about)was born In Germany
(by accident) and lived in Limburg (NL)for about 5 years and has her roots of
mum’s family at Lewis and during the session afterwards it even happened
she was able to sing in Gaelic language, cause that was once her firts
language How I did love that part !!!
Funny stories too ,about their 9 grandchildren, who are the reason they tour
abroad……
To make a long story short we had a great time all together, a night which
started with not to many people and a support of Heime Kijf, who did meet
Winter Wilson a few time at Chester Folk festival …
During the night ,just before the gig of Winter Wilson started, there came
people along unexpected (somehow it didnt out them on my list ) BUT they
were most welcome offcourse ,cause that way we filled the room in and the
atmosphere became even more cosy .
A good early autum night.
.AND celebrationtime too at 00.05h cause totally unexpected Kip said “Well
my husband its your birthday…so happy birthday to you “
So we ended with singing a Dutch birthday song to him
FLEETWOOD /CAVE
Zondagmiddag 8 Oktober
And there they came :Marion Fleetwood&Gregg Cave.
After travelling by plain,by car,by tram ,only no boat Marion said,it was a
very busy weekend for them.
BUT amazing how much energy they have left...they could play with the j
amsession afterwards also, which much passion and that was great,as it was
to have a session with two harps, two fiddles&guitar playing too, lovely
voices and very special a Lady from Cambodja singing a traditional of her
own country and superb to be able to dance with some other folkies from
the lounge audience on music of Brittany.
THIS all happened after a most wonderful performance with the gig Marion
Fleetwood&Gregg Cave.
Marion from Stratford upon Avon, I first meet when she performed years
ago with The Gigantics and Gregg from Northampton ,who I only just meet
yesterday
How happy to discovered they were so much worth to be booked in ,so once
again I was so Lucky to catch such a lovely folkduo at my lounge.
The interaction, the choice for songs&tunes it all fitted in so well and with a
very good feeling we ended this meeting at about 20.30u
Thank you ever so much Fleetwood/Cave to come along and thank you all
who came along, stayed in for the buffet/meet*greet and session too....!
ENDA KENNY
Enda Kenny
24-9-2017
Enda ,that fantastic singer/somngwriter with Irish roots, living in Australia
did finally find the way to my lounge. I was so lucky to catch him on my
path, cause he was touring in UK and was ok with a weekend tour in the
Netherlands.
It was all planned more then two years ago, since I listened to his beautiful
song “Heart tattoo.Very coinscidently (or not?) I listened to this song just a
day after one of my best friends Dennis Evans from England died…
The lyrics of the song and Enda’s lovely voice helped me through during this
difficult episode in my life. Also knowing for sure Den would have love this
song very much too, cause he was ever so fond of folkmusic and we often
listen together to the song Absent friends ,beautiful sung by Vin
Garbutt.Another song which gives me (us)goosebumps.
So it meant something when Enda sung this song at request before the
break, also to the rest of the audience and very special to Adri Richter, who
loved the song also very much .She sung it for me once when she was able to
learn it herself.
SO were all his other songs…great …what an atmosphere and what a
storyteller this musician is…How funny his song about the escape from
Ikea….The way he expressed was amazing I just could see it happening..
It was a pity Enda couldn’t stay in after for meet&greet/buffet cause he did
have to catch his plane back to UK that night,
Happy he still find time for some picts with my sheep.
And great was the jamsession anyway….lovely buffet and being together…
special thanks to Jan Nijkamp,Maarten Willems,Linda van Twist, Joke
Verdoold and Heimen Kijf…who made their appereance at the jam
.AND all the listeners …is was lovely once again a very special afternoon to
remember…Thank you all…
WILDWOOD JACK
12-9-2017
What a great openingnight we had …
Just on a Tuesdaynight, which is very unsual for a houseconcert it happened
to be Jayne Freeman and Adam Piggot (WILDWOOD JACK)came along to
perform at my house and to make the kick-off for the houseconcerts new
season
This special duo from England was on the road finishing their tour in
Denmark to the ferry in the Hook of Holland,so it was possible to catch
them there before they sailed away..
AND how happy I was able to do that…cause we had a most wonderful start
of the new season.Great interaction with the audience and lovely songs
played by them.Very enjoyable…As also was the jamsession after…great to
see musicians back and loved to listen to them all. Thank you ever so much
for staying and playing and also to the audience who came along even it was
a gig in the middle of the week.
A night to remember .It did brings lots of positive atmosphere around…..
Summerfolk 9
Kieran Halpin/Dan McKinnon
June 2017-
How lovely my end of seasonparty was once again.
Happy to be able to do so,to organize,to catch musicians for my lounge and
to see all those enthusiastic people in the audience, making time to travel and
come along, part of them even bringing heavy instruments, cause they liked
to play at the jamsession afterwards.
This time there was an open mic for three gentleman,(in the end it became 4
…)
Starter was the good musician Bart van Beeveren, always good to listen to
him and see him perform and offcourse I was hoping for a”Dougie Mac
Lean”song…and he did…lucky me.Great it had a good chorus too,so the
audience joined in and the atmosphere was there…the start of my party.
Because we started early not everyone was able to join in already and send
me messages to arrive later…A pity for Bart, but it didn’t seem to disturb
him,he was happy enough to play for less people then expected and didn’t
mind the door bell ringing time after time…AND the people who were
already in,made it well for him too, cause they sing and clapped even louder.
Second it was turn to Jan Nijkamp, asked by me a little bit on the last
moment ,cause the original planned in Rob van Leersum couldn’t make it
this time after all. SO there was Jan…again and we all enjoyed…lovely
voice…..good performance no doubt.
Number 3 for the open mic was the almost everytime there (at my
Summerfolk parties )Musonius(Martijn Breeman),BUT he wasn’t there at
the right time , due circumstances…SO happy enough anout the fact there
were more musicians in my lounge and so it happened that we had a great
song from Jan van der Kler, very well done ,AND the special guest from
England, allways a pleasure to listen to too Terry Helyar So happy these two
men were ready to perform so totally unexpected.
Then breaktime for the buffet, helas not set out in the garden this time, but
lucky enough we could stand outside to eat.Special thanks to Marianne
different,but always good!!)
Then at 18.15 time to listen to Cathinca van Sprundel (former
Teetotallers)with her presentation of the book De Vrouwe van Mirdyn with
music &singing from Gwendolyn Snowdon (Finvarra) What a great
combination they did made. Very well done very celtic Very welcome .A big
compliment to them both..and how lovely looks to book I can hardly wait to
start and what a pleasure Cathinca signed for me and wrote some very sweet
sentences for me..
Happy enough Musonius did arrive later on and thanks to Kieran making no
problems about the fact he could sing his 15 minutes just before him.Needs
no more to tell.Once again he was very good. He said the promised cd will
come next year. The request from Jan Nijkamp did bring a lot of laughter.
Then finally time for Kieran Halpin ,started his long set at 19.30..Back after
so many years it was a great pleasure to listen to him once again. His
lyrics,tunes&singing everything fitted.
A lovely surprise was the fact that at his last number to play he invited Dan
Mc Kinnon to join in …it was so special to see these two gentleman together
on stage
After a short break finally time (2045) to start the first set with the great Dan
Mc Kinnon. All the way from Canada finally in The Netherlands,
Almost 3 years ago I booked him in allready I couldn’t squeeze him in then
when he was touring in UK Thanks to Jan der Klei, who send me a message
about this musician…
To be honest I never heard about him before ,but when I did listen to his
voice I directly knew: YES please come over and play at my lounge
.Happy enough we could find him two more gigs..so it was worth coming for
him Thanks Hanneke&Liesbeth
Lovely to meet him and his lovely wife Nancy…although I saw them only for
the first time I had a feeling if I knew them for years….
To end a long story short…
IT was all amazing….a good ending of a great season and a good time to
publish my new season to the audience…
.(more about that will be on my site soon—and on this fbpage)
Thanks ..big thanks to all those who joined in (once again(coming
back, spread the word)AND very special thanks to Joost Ligthart who made
so may lovely pictures and did lead the jamsession afterwards, cause Maarten
Willems wasn’t able to so .
Stephen and Pernilla Quigg
AND then just on a Wednesday in April,a day in the middle of the week
which didnt give any problems to get the audience in,cause they are so lovely
they came along IT was amazing to get them back once again. They are a
great musician copple making the combination of Scottish and Danish
AND I do love them :Stephen is a great storyteller too and has a lovely voice
and so has his wonderful wife. It was really lovely to be again in Scottish
atmosphere at my lounge.I did enjoy every moment of this music night at my
lounge which was the lst real gig before the end of seasonparty coming in
June. Thanks everyone who joined in once again !!
Paul O Brien(special guest Cath Shannon)/Maarten Willems with
Frank Verlaan and Gertjan Kaaijen
April 2017
What a wonderful time we all had, that 101 st concert at my lounge .
It was a very special double gig with two lovely singer/songwriters mixed
together.
From Ireland the great Paul O’Brien with his own (new )material.Ever so
good with lovely storytelling also and Maarten Willems,Dutch poet, making
into lovely songs, hounting tunes a remarkable man.
These two man came back to the lounge, like they did before.
Paul did bring in the lovely special guest Cath Shannon ( guiness with nasi
goering she wrote about herself. This lovely singer half Irish/Indonesian Lady
has a voice not to forget, the way she did perform Motherland from Nathalie
Merchant was really amazing.
This time Maarten Willems did bring Frank Verlaan and for the first time
great guitar playing of Gertjan Kaaijen.
Great session afterwards with lots of difference, good to see back Jerry
Kooijman, specialized in John Denver songs and all the way back once again
from England Terry Helyar.
Thanks to all the people who did join in for this folknight at my lounge.
Simon Kempston
March 26 2017-CELEBRATION TIME 100 x loungeconcerts !!!!
AND the just suddenly there was the day for the big celebration of the fact
there were 100 houseconcerts played at my little lounge…isnt amazing?…It
seems like yesterday since I started. How time flies when we have fun…AND
how lovely it was the great singer/songwriter from Scotland came over once
again..the man from Dundee, living at Edinburgh now :Simon kempston
with his most wonderful guitarplaying. He was at my lounge before with, on
that time wearing his Scottish quilt around my Christmas decoration
supported by the former Dutch band The Teetotallers. As it was a good night
then,it was a wonderful afternoon now too . How I like his cd’s ,listened to
them quiet often so it was good to hear them once again performed I do love
his lyrics a lot …And how Simon did chat with the audience with lots of
good stories &jokes it all was very much fun…..A special musician he
is,hope to see him back many times again…A bonus encore was his own
intepratation of Caledonia…I loved it …And also the audience who came
along and did bring theirselves once again and lots also with very good
homemade food,so there was a great choice at my kitchen table with lots of
different tastes. It was a primeur for my grandson Jack to see a concert and
he did love it a lot….The wheater was also at my favour so it was good to see
the 100 time balloons swinging above the coffeetable in the garden….I loved
all the moments it makes me very happy ,thank you all for all the help you
give me again and again and special thanks for the incredible Maarten
Willems who knows when the show must go on….And the jamsession
afterwards was good,very good !
George Papapgeris
Saturday Februari 18…
Great time we did all have last night with a wonderful Greek, living in
England for a long time, even for some time in Holland,so it was nice to
discover he could understand a lot of the Dutch languages and was brave
enough to talk a little bit and to sing part of a song A really lovely…Very
enjoyable person :George Papavgeris, friend of Vicki Swan&Jonny Dyer, well
known for those who are a regular visitor to the lounge concerts…George
made beautiful selfpenned songs with great lyrics and the melodies were
easy to follow with the loads of chorusses…he did offer to the audience on a
special piece of paper, which made it so more handy ,cause like George
said,he loves the fact when people sing along with his songs We all did enjoy
the very cosy atmosphere with helas not that much folk around ,but the
people who joined in make together a really good jamsession afterward.
Thank you all who once again came to my lounge….the 98th gig it was…..
Ewan Mc Lennan
Ewan Mc Lennan.
Came back after 6 years and two months….he was there before at November
2010…played then one of the first loungeconcerts…..At that time he was in
good company of that other great singer/songwriter David Ferrard and
playede a part of the night as for now he was there all by himself ,filling the
whole night..and he was doing that very well !!!. I did see him at Sidmouth
Folk week in 2015 and although I think he was great at my lounge in 2010,he
was so much bigger ever since and I think now he is among one of the
greatest. How I do love his wonderful special voice,,making all the songs so
complete and his amazing Scottish talks were so lovely to listen to….So was
the whole night…..Good to see new faces again and a great jamsession
afterwards….filled in by new&old faces &sounds. Thanks you all so very
much…and thank you Ewan so much for playing once again at my litte
lounge…!!!
Helen Flaherty&Philip Masure
Helen Flaherty with Philip Masure and special guestplayer Simon Donnelly
Jan 14th2017
WHAT a absolutely fabulous night we all did have.
This first loungeconcert to celebrate the New Year 2017
It was so lovely that after so much waiting time, since we make the deal it was
more then 18 months ago.
IT was absolutely enormous to catch Helen Flaherty for my lounge.
What an amazing Scottish Lady,(living at Belgium nowadays)with such a
warm voice and performance.
Funny jokes between in the very good company of Philip Masure, which
whom she played for about 23 years now.
It all fitted in so well,
Lucky me and lucky audience who did all fit in at my full house lounge…
even space in the kitchen,
Sorry to disappoint those 8 people on the waitinglist.
Very lovely atmosphere was created by these two musicians,
who also di have so much energy left to stay and join in for the really superb
jamsession afterwards …
Another great night to remember !!!
Thanks to you all.
FOOLS GOLD
(Steve and Carol Robson from Durham )
Came to my lounge Dec. 10th
A long time ago we did make the date for this gig, so it was exciting to meet
them at last.
We spend a lovely afternoon together sightseeing The
Hague&Scheveningen before their gig starts.
Only a few people did find time to come to the lounge this time ,which was a
pity for Fools Gold.
BUT they said they didn’t mind and played their gig with loads of
enthusiasme, stories, jokes and interaction with the audience…
A mix of traditionals &own work and a real Christmas medley…s
o we all came in the snowy atmosphere of an American Christmas.
Something new did happen at my lpunge by this surprise and it fitted in
perfectly at my lounge, so much decorated for Christmas…..
The jamsession afterwards was great,a lovely meet&greet a still energic
Fools Gold ….some new people in the audience, who preferred :”Eerst de kat
uit de boom te kijken “”
(no translation found) but meaning triggered to join in,but wait first and
perhaps next time….
Hopefully they will, cause it was nice to meet them and I do love new faces
among my audience.
The last concert of 2016 was a memorable one…no doubt about that…..Merry
Christmas was the final message of them to all of you….!
Siobhan Owen
Sat 26 Nov 2016-11-27
WHat A NIGHT it was last night….and the last copple of days.
At Thursdaynignt I did spend very special time with those wonderful people
from Australia (Siobhan ,Arthur and Sheila Owen )
Then at Friday we had a great time with lots of enthusiastic listeners and
performers at Maarten @Kartin 11
So very well organized by Maarten Willems.
AND then finally we came to the Saturdaynight to see with lots of audience
…cause there was a full house for Siobhan Owen, that fantastic
singer/harpist from so far away.
Original born in Wales in the small town of
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndribwllllantysiliogogogoch to a Welsh
father and an Irish mother.
How special Pieter Huisman was at the lounge as a guest and was able to
pronounce this name well.
Siobhan is living in Adelaide now….I was so lucky I could catch this lovely
young talented Lady ,cause she came at the path of harpist Joost Lighthart
and he sended me a mail with a you-tube movie of her ,asking:”Please listen
to this and tell me what you think…WOOOOH what do you think…my
season was totally filled in,but this was so special I has to squeeze her in
….and she was happy to come and play, which was very special cause on her
way to play a part in EXCALIBUR now in a German tour this was to be her
only Dutch concert….HOW enjoyable..tears in my eyes on certain
moments..a voice like an angel I think……so pure….so special…
SO are all her cd’s which were on my discplayer all day today when I worked
at my lounge getting it back to normal )It s like an invasion after a full
house you know…)
BUT I do love it…it was all worth …
.it makes me feel privileged I can do organize this lovely houseconcerts …
Thank you so much all who joined in as a listener or a player at the
jamsession afterwards. So nice to catch some new faces too…..!!
Reactions of the night
Maarten Willems ::
“Er zijn al vele hoogtepunten geweest tijdens Folk in the Lounge. Het optreden van
Siobhan was er zeker één van.”
(
Ine Buurman (who could be there but listened to the video)
Prachtige stem .
Siobhan Owen, hersfelf: Thank you so much Karin Pronk for inviting me to
perform at your lounge concert. It was a fun night with lovely people. Also for
allowing us to stay for a few days and for the lovely veggie meals. Thanks also to
Joost Ligthart for suggesting me to Karin. It was nice meeting you and hearing you
play in the session afterwards. Please thank everyone for coming along and making
Jo de Fietser Thanx to you ! We've a great evening/night !! You're special ! We did
enjoy your performance. Have a good trip and stay well
Simon Oak making a pict :
This is how a full house looks at Karin's, with brilliant harp star singer Siobhan
Owen, all the way from Adelaide. Believe it or not: she sang in no less than 6
languages, including Irish, Breton, Welsh and Japanese. I've asked for Dutch in her
next concert.
Siobhan Owen Thank you for your kind words and for your great Irish songs in the
session afterwards
Noratessa Ward A great photo of what must have been a great gathering
Simon Oak it was! We had a session afterwards with 4 harps. Two girls drove two
hours to see Siobhan, who did just one concert in Holland before her tour in
Germany.
Had a fantastic night performing at Karin's lounge. Can't wait to return next year!
The night before : Sheila Owen
Had a fantastic evening in Karin's home with a great group of musicians for
Maarten's Singaround. Siobhan has a concert here tomorrow night with s full house!
ME Exactly the same feeling Joost like you say :
Joost Ligthart Lucky to be alive with such a lot af very nice people
Me :A great night to cherish and remember .
However, never mind.,gelukkig stonden deze twee gezellige mensen er zo in…
.En special thanks too to Terry fors inging as promised to me “Dorset is
lovely”
A night to rememeber !!
Vicki Swan&Jonny Dyer ,with support from Evrin
8 Oktober 2016-
Was a really special night…cause Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer came back to my
lounge for the fouth time…!!!!
The first time they came special for my Summerfolkparty at June 2010,after
that they grew into more gigs at The Nertherlands, from support for the
Tannahill Weavers two years ago at Zaandam they did play there this
afternoon for a head act
…..THIS lovely folkmusic duo’s is one of my favourites from England ...
I did discover them about 10 years ago and ever since I do follow them and
are very happy when they do perform at a festival in England and I m able to
catch them
Like I did this summer and how much impressed I was then by the fact they
also did play in a Purcell P Party band to be part of every day workshops”
Playford dancing”
.How enjoyable that was.
Another dream of me now is to catch them with this act to The Hague one
day in future ,so many people can be able to do some Playford dancing
overhere too,..wouldnt that be lovely,??
As also would be the fact they can come over to do their special Christmas
celebration show, when they do sing those lovely Christmas carols….like in a
Victorian music hall like a real winter warmer.
SO more wish it..dream it…do it for me,,,
and as Vicki said to me,when I mention the idea..”O YES we will talk about
that ….“
MEANWHILE it was really something to get them back at my lounge…they
did have a lovely support twice before from the gentleman from Belgium
with the lovely singer/piper Dimitri Claes, part of Botswing, who were not
able this time to come over .
SO how suprising it was a lovely Dutch duo did want to give them a support
this time.
EVRIN *The wonderful voice of Evi combinated with the lovely singer Riny
and the extra dimension of guitar player Michael did all make it to a very
special extra at this most wonderful night…With all those amazing
instruments the nickelharpa sounds brings me to special atmosphere like in
faitytale countries,so does the pipes&whistles and the instruments of Jonny
are also a vey special thing with those harmony voices it s totally complete..It
all fits in perfectly as in their latests cd..”Paper and pins” which is on my
cdpalyer today for the third time right now….so happy to keep these
memories alive…..
Sam Kelly duo
1-10-201
Last night we had the pleasure to get a gig from the Sam Kelly duo at
my lounge at The Hague…,
It was so exciting to finally catch them.
Although I saw the Sam Kelly trio for the first time this summer at Sidmouth
folkweek ,
I allready booked in them quiet a long time ago…advised by Kelda Manley, who also
did bring Ciaran Algar and Greg Russell at my path …
What I saw at SFW did make a big impression on me,so I really was looking
forward to this gig very much….
AND the way the Sam Kelly duo (without the drummer ) = Sam Kelly &
Jamie Francis played was really absolutely fabulous.
How I did love their choice of songs&tunes…it all fit and mix in together so well.
So happy this part of the young generation did found my lounge..
. What a great voice Sam has and what a superb way of playing the banjo Jamie !!
Very special were the moments when the banjo played Irish tunes and so did bring
memories to Maarten Willems, who played in a band Irish playing years ago with a
banjoplayer, who sadly died young. Also special was the fact Jamie did like to play on
Maarten’s guitar and a real bonus to me was the fact Sam sung the last song for
me,on my request …I heard this most beautiful song about his granddad at SFW…
Thank you ever so much.
As Sam&Jamie wrote for my album a note with …”Our first gig in Holland…..the
memories will stay with us forever….”
AND so it will for me…a very special night please come back guys….
They were sold out with their cd at Derbyfestival the day before…so couldn’t bring
them in,…but please go to Sam’s website and order..so you will all have your memory
for those who came along, and for those who couldn’t make to come…you did miss
really something….go for the cd….it will give you a lovely impression of these great
young musicians.:
Thanks for all who played so well at the jamsession and special thanks to Willem
Jan who did start a Macedonian melody ,so my friend Zana original from there
and me were able to dance for a while….and to Jamie with his never stopping playing
the banjo also there…
A lovely meet&greet&atmosphere.with enthusiastic listeners and players .
Ray Cooper ,17-9-16
September 2016 Saturday 17
And finally there he came:Ray Cooper former member of the
Oysterband, solo on tour since about 4 years,we did make this date about 2
½ years ago, cause bizar as it is so many good artists did found their way to
my litte lounge, which means there is much k in advantage now.
I do feel very privileged,so many did and will do .
Yesterdag there was for the 90th time an official houseconcert.
Ray Cooper a most talented multi instrumentalist did perfom on a very
lovely.way.
Most talented also at songwriting and with a great voice.
SO those who came along were all very enthousiastic about the night.
How we all loved the most beautiful tunes and songs at his wonderful chello.
The way he did perform one of my favourite Robert Burns songs”We
Yacobite”was amazing.I could see that episode in the Scottish history when I
closed my eyes.
Scottish atmosphere which Ray also like, cause although from
England, living in Sweden now he does have Irish and Scottish roots. And as
mentioned in his cd booklet,he did spend a time there every year of his life.
Also the Shetland tune he learned from Aly Bain was marvellous.
His songs with selfpenned lyrics were very good and I did love the way he
talked about all those memories he did like to share with us from touring
around with his band. Specially those of the DDR.
So something special ,did happen a man with a chello coming all the way
from Sweden to my place
And last but not least to mention it became even more special cause Jessica
de Korte did make a reportage bringing Timo a photographer with her ,for the magazine
“ZIN”This will be published in the Christmas edition,So keep
an eye open for it !!
Lovely also was the jamsession afterwards, special thanks to Rieke Pronk &
Willem Jan Koorenegevel who did play so enthousiastic it did bring a lot of
people at the dance floor too.
Thank you all very much for join in ,stay for the session, making pictures
Casper de Weerd,Linda van Twist &videos and helping to prepare &taking
it over for a while during the time I was busy with the interview special
thanks to Maarten Willems once again.
Sat Sept 3----
Damian Clarke
The opening of my new season 2016/2017
Was the concert with Damian Clarkethe man with roots in Donegal, living
at Dorset /England finally came to play at my lounge. It was quiet a long time
since we booked the date…to much was going on between…It was worth
waiting to see and listen to this musician with these most beautiful original
instruments,the hurly-gurdy and the hammered dulcimer…How the
audience and me did enjoy all this. Damain proved to be a very frien...dly
person with loads of interaction, sing alongs with traditionals, lovely own
songs with stories …It all gave a very special atmosphere at my lounge…an
evening to think back at with a smile on my face…More then a musician he
is,he did bring also some of his lovely paintings which did make it even more
special and give it an extra dimension hanging an the wall behind him when
he was performing.Afterwards there was much time for meet&greet and
those who liked to give the hammered dulcimer a try were invited and most
welcome to do so . Also time left for the audience to play at the jamsession
and lots of energy left from Damian to join in there too. Thanks all who
came in...my folkies on who I can build around ,new facesTerry and Marga
Middeldorp & ................and those made lovely picts &videos,Linda Van
Twist,Joost Ligthart&……Lovely to see Ineke Buitendijk ,Yvonne de Zwaan
&Casper de Weerd back again....Most welcome to Terry Helyarf rom
England who sung so lovely without realizing ,the favourite song of my best
friend Dennis and my dad too A very special moment to me,cause I do miss
Den and me dad so much Thanks also to Maarten Willems who helped me
through once again and lead the session so well.& made great picts And
special thanks to Rieke Pronk who played with Damain a bourree so once
again I was able to dance and dance and dance…..which I do love so much...

19 juni om 2:56 ·
Fabulous eve at Karin Pronk 's lounge. Everything was perfect. Music, performers
and the glorious food. Thank you my dears!
AND then there was my Summerfolkparty number 8.A litlle bit tricky start
with a feeling of:”The show must go on….”cause I did wake up that Friday
before, feeling very sick…(off to the toilet every 15 minutes)but with a
daytime to recover and lovely help from friends and Maarten Willems,my
rock in the sea….Allways prepare to help.when necessary he is the one I can
count on ..Thank you ever so much Maarten !! ALSO much thanks for
helping me out most of the season ,supporting all my ideas and little plans
about all those folkmusicians ,its me who make the bookings and
desicions, but most of time its him who make the breakfasts next morning
when I m off to work….and its him who is carrying around all those chairs
and is organizing the places ,so anybody can fit in (AND that was quiet a
struggle this time, there were people even sitting in the garden and
kitchen, but in the end it did all work out marvellous and it was really worth)
and make the jamssesions… ……..All those preparations…….WE did start
early enough and did get the time to do very thing which was planned in at
the programm. This time also Adri Reeumus did help me to get everything
done in time.
First act we had the open mic with Adri Richter she was singing three new
selfpenned songs ,which she only was sung before at her own lounge, like she
said. They were so personal and so good…Thank you very much Adri..After
that we had a special performance from Maarten Willems…who also did
sing a song for the first time for the audience, his lovely new one; “”Ik denk
aan jou …”Allready played in the studio for his new coming cd,with lovely
whistleplaying of Frenk van Meeteren,.This night played and sung by
Maarten in the good company of Ciaran Algar himself, who didnt have time
to pracatize ,but was in for a challenge…AND how this did work out……just
superb to hear his lovely fiddle playing togethher with Maartens song…I
loved it very much…
A short special open mic after this was the happening of Rose Little with her
two daughters Alice and Sarayana…..great to listen tot his lovely
musicians.AND so happy once again Rose could make it to come over to
Holland for holidaytime and made the combination with this houseconcert ,
like she did before.
After that three open mic acts, breaktime for the gardenbuffet, which people
did like vey much…happy about…that too.
THEN we did listen to a great musiaian from Germany, something new for
the lounge too. Introduced by his big fan,one of “my folkies”Adri Reemeus ,
who had this man on his wishinglist for a long time.So finally there he came
Otto Groote, ever so special to listen to his songs sung in Platdeutsch, with a
lovely voice..
After that time for another little break and the we started with the great duo
Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar …..HOW I do love them. Greg came before
solo at September 2014 and did promise to us audience :”If you behave
yourself”I ll come back with my duomate and great fiddle player Ciaran
Algar AND so lucky we were, cause he did keep that promise. AND What a
most wonderful combination. It seems like everything was just right, the
music,the playing,the guitar,the fiddle,the voices,the songs ,the stories ,the
chorusses, the interaction. And dont forget to mention making the
possibiltiy to dance…dance at my loung&kitchen…We even did find place
for that part too. How I love dancing……That was how we did end the second
part of their gig.
Between the breaks there was time for just one other open mic act ,with the
lovely Musonius,a well known great Dutch troubadour ,to my
Summerfolkparty,we cant do without him,I m afraid..There can be
a possibility he is coming back this new season to come, with a
support, together with Gert van der Slikke and Dagmar Cloosterman . Gert
was allready playing with him at the open mic,it all fits in so wonderful, but
helas Dagmar was ill this night.
To cut this whole story down now I like to say :
, It was just one of those nights which did make such a great impression and
creat a memory….one of the most happiest……SO how priviliged I do feel to
be able to organize all this…Thank you al lso very much for giving me the
possibility to realize my dreams….thanks to the musicians and to the
audience and offcourse to Maarten for his most wonderful support.
Happy summertime after this summerfolkparty to all of you…and lets
prepare for the new season to come soon……
COMING next my new season …..keep an eye open on this page and check
my site for it….CAUSE like Liesbeth Peeters allways says: “Geen muziek
zonder publiek”
O'Hooley&Tidow
May 18th 2016
YEH What a great night we all had with two lasses from Yorkshire
(one of my favourite areas in Britain )
IT really was a big happening for me to catch these lovely most talented
musicians finally at my lounge. Two years ago when they came fort he first
time to Holland it was almost going to happen, but because there was to
much going on at my lounge fort hat moment I did have to say NO not now
to them.I didnt feel that happy about, cause I really did want them, however
they didnt mind and understood and because of this it became the fact that
they were able to come this time.
How they changed the lounge into a very special warm intimate atmosphere. Although it wasnt a totally full house for them it was very much filled in with people who all did enjoy themselves and so did Belinda and Heidi themselves too.
Their ideas about the lounge I could read later on at facebook and it means a lot to me to read their enthusiatic reactions about my lounge and home THANKS for that and also a huge THANK YOU for performing so really superb…how we all enjoyed…funny it was to discover that I m the only one who announce them as Tidow & O Hooley instead as most people do: O Hooley &Tidow….(Heidi felt honoured about)
There voices are both beautiful and mix so well together…
It was a pity it all ended at a certain moment and part of the audience did give a standing ovation after the encore….
There was a really big meet&greet afterwards and later on a great session too. Thanks to all who joined in there too and thanks to my lovely neighbours, who didnt complain, cause it was all happening at a Wednesday ,instead of a weekend.
Thank you both so much :
Reactions online were:

O Hooley and Tidow :
First night in Netherlands has been absolutely brilliant. A tiny, acoustic gig with an audience that raised the roof in singing along. Honoured to do this for a living. Thanks for having us Karin!
Henk Westerik It was great!!!
Gill Loomes Best spot in Den Haag, that lounge is!
Lucy Ward I know that bedroom …… karin for me and have a great time in NL xx
O'Hooley & Tidow Will do! X

Thanks to all.
When I finished this article I did suddenly realized its all-in Dutch,I think I did write without thinking about, c use the artsists were Dutch.
So anyone who need a translation, please google for one time…
AND realize :…in one word to say it was a marvellous night at my lounge once again !!!
Alan Reid and Rob van Sante
16 -4-16
A special day, cause after three years Alan Reid and Rob van Sante came back to my lounge.
They were there before at an afternoonconcert in Januari 2013
How wonderful it was. Although it wasnt a full house at all,the audience WHO was there was ever so enthusiastic, which was lovely to see, cause Alan and Rob did made a lot of interaction with them with loads of sing alongs and chorusses AND like Alan said listened good tot the “couplet”
A beautiful choice of songs they played together at a mix of instruments. How I did enjoyed and so did they, like Rob said later on :
:” I enjoyed it immensely...xx”
and Alan : “It was a pleasure Karin “
AND the audience too: “Alles was mooi zei een toehoorder. Indeed!”
A very Scottish atmosphere was there that Saturdaynight at my lounge…hope to catch them back in future and organize a full house then fort hem ,cause they are really something very special.
So are there cd’s I put them om yesteday and couldnt stop listening.
Thanks to all who came along and those who stayed for the jamsession afterwards, which wasnt with much people, but enough to create a lovely atmosphere, special thanks for singing Engelberthus Pronk, for try out new songs Jan Nijkamp, for playing lovely dance music ,so Linda and me could do some folkdance improvisation (plenty of room, this time) :Willem Jan Koorengevel AND to Maarten Willems for being there once more and very special thanks to Rob van Sante, who had such much energy left and so he did starting to play Dutch traditionals with the other musicians. Very very special.
Bram Taylor,19-3-16
We had a great night celebrating the springtime with Bram Taylor, last Saturday.
It took a while before I could fit in Bram at my lounge to do his gig. It was only after the lovely cd’s I received from Judith Haswell and Trish McLean I start mailing with this lovely musician.
Also Hannekje Janissen recommended him to me. So thank you all for doing that.
A most wonderful voice he has and great interaction with the audiene ,a choice a lots of songs with chorusses. So everybody was very much involved.
Funny was the duet wit the great Vin Garbutt.
Nice also he introduces his good friends and musicians Bruno van den Hoek en Elly Beurkens, it was very special to see them on stage too several times.
The session afterwards was helas not with Bram himself, cause he had to travel away earlier, but there was stil plenty of time to meet&greet and making picts with him.
So nice chats&memories were made.
However the jamsession was good lead ,as many time before by Maarten Willems, so thank you very much Maarten…and nice to see and listen to new musicians in the circle like Ernst Stoltz and Heimen Kijf.
Thank you all so very much for joining in once again ,it was a lovely way to celebrate my birthday and springtime all at one like this.
Roger Wilson &Chris Parkinson
31-1-16
Yesterday we all did have a very special winterafternoon at my lounge.
The atmoposhere with a most lovely audience was really superb !!!
AND so were the musicians Roger Wilson and Chris Parkinson.
Parky allready in the lounge at few years ago with Flossie Malavialle ,back
last time as a trio with Pete Morton& Roger Wilson ,
came back now as a duo....it was really brilliant the way they performed.
Lots of different tunes and songs came along.
A very good mix with wellknown songs and unknown tunes.
Also plenty of chorusses to sing along which made the atmosphere very special.
It was wonderful to listen and enjoy the voices of both Chris Parkinson and Roger Wilson.
And great to see them play on all those lovely instruments.
Very nice it was possible to do a little bit of dancing with Maarten Willems at the side too.
The buffet afterwards was cosy and although the artists couldnt stay for the session afterwards(cause they had to catch the ferry in time ),it was good they did still find time for a meet&greet with the audience.
Thanks to all who did join in and special to Chris and Roger !
Fred Piek and Maarten Willems, with Frank Verlaan-
9-1-2016
Last night there was a really fantastic gig of Fred Piek and Maarten Willems, with Frank Verlaan. It was so great to see them back at my lounge...Very much impressed about their performance once again. It seems that after three times playing like this together ,there is a very natural interaction between them all.Funny jokes of both ,chats with the public and sing alongs ,it was all there. A very good programme also all togther, because there was a really very good mixed up play list with something for everyone:songs for crying...songs for making you think about the meaning of life and songs just for fun.Like last time it was very special to listen to Fred singing some of Maarten 's songs too. Good also to realize that the song "Ik wil weg",written by Maarten Willems is really something of a goldie oldie now...cause everyone could join in and also very good to handle by the new audience. It was very special to see there was a great international combination, this time ,people from UK,Germany and Palestina ,it alll worked out perfectly together, lovely to see that even if the Dutch songs were not understanble for them ,it didnt matter cause they just loved the tunes and atmosphere and the performance from Fred,Frank and Maarten a lot. Hoping for more to come in future again...cause it is never boring at all to listen to this gentleman together.Thank you very much once again Fred Piek,Maarten Willems&Frank Verlaan for playing such a wonderful gig at my home. I did feel very fortunated.AND also thanks to all the people who came along and special thanks for those who played so lovely at the session afterwards.
Pete Melodeon (Grassby) in town .
12-12&13-12 2015
WOOH ….
What a weekend with Pete Grassby back in town.
Like he came before ,almost like Father Christams himself at Dec 2011,there he was again.
AND this time he could spend more time in Holland, so we were so lucky to see him as a musician&caller at MUSICON at Sundayafternoon 13-12 teaching us English folkdance. It was a wonderful workshop and it was amazing to see how much energy &talent this musician had to manage and combinated teaching, playing and calling what to dance all at the same time .
Not that many people around ,cause December is a busy month ,so others were to busy with Christmas preparations etc., but those who came were so enthuaistic that it seemed the double amount of people and the atmosphere was really marvellous. So many diffrent dances were teached and it was so relaxing just to dance and nothing more….Nice to organize this fort he firts time and who knows there will be another time to follow.
It was lovely to listen to Pete again at my lounge at Saturdaynight 12-12 Thanks Eduard Bekker so much for promoting at the Harmonicahoek.
How I love the sound of the beautiful hammered dulcimer and the way Pete was performing, telling loads of stories between with funny jokes.
A wonderful voice when he sings. Much impressed by the song he dedicated to me with the chorus:
He came as a stranger and leave as a friend…
Very much interaction with the audience too with singalongs and chorusses.
As this article shows hope Pete will come back another time…cause he really is something special.
The session after was also lovely with loads of people staying for the meet &greet &playing around.
A bonus it was to see Nout Grupstra again at the Sundaynight playing another little session with Pete and Maarten.
Lucy Ward ,21-11-15
Much later then I did plan to do
is my story about the
performance of Lucy Ward at my
lounge last Saturday
I did became ill after she left, and
stayed in bed with a fever since
Sunday night.
However it was nice to dream
further on of this lovely gig she
played at my home.
How wonderful to catch all those people in to get her a full house…she deserved it so much…It was the third time Lucy came back to the lounge and I even didn’t have to promote and invitate people at the facebook for this happening,as soon as people did read at my seasoncard ,they said :”O Lucy Ward is coming, can I book to come in??”
And so it happened she really was there at this sat Nov 21th to finishing her tour of Germany and Holland, which keep her away from home and her cats for about a month...AND it as the 80th gig at my lounge, which Lucy like to mention..
How good it was to see this wonderful Lady back at my lounge.
How happy I was ,when I reminded it was me who took her to Holland for the first time a few years ago.
How wonderful to listen to these most beautiful songs, she wrote ever since and how happy to receive her latest cd. “”I dreamt I was a bird”
Its on my cdplayer ever since ,cause it’s a lovely cd to listen too over and over again and again.
How much humour and what a charisma Lucy has ….and what an energy….unbelievable…she is a legend already !!!
I will copy some reactions of the audience in this article also…to prove it was a really wonderful night and my audience loved it all.
So thank you ever so much Lucy Ward and please come back …..!!!
AND thanks to all the people who came along and stayed for the session after.
It was great to hear Richard Schoon again on his whistle and very very special Sandy Gowan did get the time to stay and played wonderful songs with his most beautiful voice and a bonus for me it was to listen to the DougieMcLean song “Caledonia”.
Henk Westerik aan Karin Pronk
Absolutely fabulous!!!!
A fantastic night with Lucy Ward @ Karin Pronk Folk in the lounge!!!
Craobh Rua
15-11-15
After all these wonderful gigs
I did organize at my lounge (79
allready) it was really a premiere
for the fact : FOR THE FIRST
time I was able to have an irish band with 4 members at my lounge….
Thanks to Liesbeth Peeters who made there tour around in Holland and offered me the possibibility to join in ,so i was able to catch them fort he Sundaynight, the last night of there too.
SUCH a lovely great Irish atmosphere they did create at my lounge…it really make me feel I was in an Irish pub, listening to a very good band.
CUASE a very good band they are this CRAOBH RUA ,with four great members showing themselves, telling jokes and stories between, make it very much more ,cause they were standing when they introduced and sit down when they played.
The new way of putting the chairs at the othrt long site of my lounge made this all better possible.
How happy it made me to listen tot hes lovely Irish tunes and great songs between wonderful sung by the singer of the band: Jim Rainey
Jim Rainey (guitar and vocals) Belfast born, began playing guitar and trying to sing at around the age of 16. It was at this time that he first discovered Irish trad music and whilst immediately smitten, did not begin to play at sessions until into his twenties. A self-taught musician, Jim got most of his musical education at the various sessions throughout Belfast. His influences are too numerous to list-though he is particularly drawn to Breton fest noz music, blues, bluegrass and gypsy swing.
Most impressed by the uileanpipe &tinwhistle player :Desy McCabe
Desy McCabe (uilleann pipes and tin whistle) originally from Belfast and now living in Cork. Desy started initially playing the tin whistle at 15 and then a few years later began to play the uilleann pipes. His main influence on the uilleann pipes was the uilleann piper and pipe maker Sean McAloon. He also learned from recordings of The Chieftains, The Bothy Band and Planxty and started to play at the sessions around Belfast. He is the original uilleann piper with Craobh Rua and recorded on the first album Not A Word About It.
AND what a great fiddleplayer : Conor Caldwell
Conor Caldwell (fiddle) from Belfast is a student of Donegal fiddle music and was awarded a PhD in 2013 for his thesis on the fiddler John Doherty. He has taught and lectured as many prestigious festivals around Ireland and Europe including the Willy Clancy Summer School, the Glencolmchille Fiddle Week and Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair, as well as having worked at Queen’s University, Belfast. Conor has collaborated with a number of artists in recent times, including Danny Diamond, Maurice Leyden and the Scottish fiddler Coll Macdonald.
And a very much style of his own by banjo player : Brian Connolly
Brian Connolly (banjo and mandolin) from Belfast was taught the mandolin by his grandfather and then started playing the banjo. His main influences include Barney McKenna of the Dubliners, The Chieftains, The Bothy Band and Planxty. He played with several groups while at school and began playing at sessions. He founded the original Craobh Rua in the mid-eighties and remains the driving force behind the band today. As well as touring with Craobh Rua he teaches banjo and mandolin and has published a banjo tutor book Play Tunes on the Irish Tenor Banjo Introductory Repertoire.
IT WAS A REAL NIGHT to remember…and hope to catch them back another time…when they are on the road again.

NIMUE
What a lovely night we all had
last night.
The two Ladies from folkgroup
Sheep on the boat are together a
most talented duo.
Write about: NIMUE= Dagmar Cloosterman at cello and Gwendolyn de Boer (on harp)
These young talented people did ask me if they could perform at my lounge and although my season was already booked in advantage I decided to sqeeuze them in.
And so it happened we all come together on this halloweennight to see this duo.
For the audience it was in a different position at my lounge because we all needed to see what was to happen on the ground too.
Maarten and me created the possibility to make 3 rows with 13peopleon the front,
so YES everybody was able to see what was happening.
AND that was really necessary other wise we couldn’t see the fact that a man was falling down on the floor, dropped dead totally,
This fitted in great story telling:searchingfor Excalibur by Nimue.
They travelledplaces in many countries every time a story was told with it,so we could travelwith them and the music fitted in [rfectly with each country.
SOMETHING special, something new at my lounge more then singing,bt storytelling too and how lovely it was to listen to the most beautiful songs played in cello and harp/AND it was a real treat to listen to this warm special voice from Gwendolyn/
A bonus on it all was the fact that in the end Gwen and Dagmar decided to sing some Irish songs too.
Thank you all who made the lounge a fullhouse and thanks to Nimue. !!!
10-10-15
And there she was back again at
my lounge…thousands of miles
travelling all the way from South
Africa:The lovely Miriam
Erasmus. Because she is touring
in Great Briatian I was so lucky to
catch her for a weekend in Holland.
AND what a weekend, how we did enjoy to spend time together with on top of all the highlights her gig at that Saturdaynight.
It all started early, because there was a support of the lovely young talented singer/songwriter Cathy Shannon, this half Irish/half Indonesian Lady is a promise for the future and I was ever so lucky to catch her for my lounge. Lovely lyrics and tunes of her selfpenned songs and very special to hear her sing one of my favourite Irish ballads “ Raglan Road “sung at the jamsession afterwards. Please come back Cathy …..there are a lot more sessions to come and so will be our new project [email protected],info for that you can find by mailing Maarten Willems.
Miriam Erasmus was well known at the seventies in UK. ,her name was Backhouse then, but she moved away to follow her husband all down to South Africa, back in folk again, touring much in UK since 2006…I did meet at her at Warwick Folkfestival and invited her in May 2013,which was also a memorable night then too, when the lovely Edie Chase Careyfrom USA joined in to support her.
Miriam has a really beautiful voice and I do love the way she is performing with loads of interaction and little jokes between ,als a lot of sing alongs ,which the audience and me do like so much.
SO it all made a very warm Autumn night atmosphere, even though the lounge wasnt filled in that much with people, helas…
But however thank you ever so much to all who could come along and although the session wasnt that big also,(and we did miss the lovely low whistle playing of Richard Schoon and Gert van der Slikke)but it was a really good atmosphere too. Thanks very much for all the beautiful songs :Paul O'Brien and Jan Nijkamp
.Thanks to Engelberthus Pronk with his great srong voice singing seashanties and Henk Dorrestijn for coming back with the wellknown song Johanna.Nice to hear the voice of Linda van Linda Van Twist too…promosing for future…. Special thanks to Maarten Willems for leading and helping me out once again …I did enjoy every moment.
AND the bonus was next morning when Miriam treated me on one of my favourite Scottish songs The Skye boat song, just private for me in my lounge, cause she forgot to do so at the night before…..
Thanks Miriam Erasmus
Thanks Cathy Shannon !!

Katriona Gilmore &Jamie Roberts
Yesterday was a very special day for me,that night I was able to celebrate the 75th gig played at my lounge. It was very nice to hang up all the decorations &balloons and make special treats for the people.
The atmosphere was great, cause a lot of people came around. It promised to be a full house, but in the end, some people couldnt make it afeter all (and pity enough a few didnt show up),which means there were 8 people less then expected ,but nevertheless it was great.S o thanks to all ,who came and for those who stayed at the session afterwards.
MANY special thanks to Adri Richter, that lovely Blue grass Lady from BABES IN THE GRASS, special singing for me that most beautiful song written by Enda Kenny ,the lovely musician from Australia (who hopefully will come and play in the season of 2017):Heart tattoo. This song did move me very much, cause it let my think about my dearest friend Dennis Evans, who died last July.
I did have to wait a long time before I could Katriona and Jamie squeezing in,last year there werf or the fisrt time touring in Holland and the ys asked, but it was to busy at the time .But it was worth waiting. Beautiful songs&superb tunes were played by this twice nominated BBC folk ward duo .
Nice interactions with the audience who did sing along so well.
Also very friendly people to have a chat with and with lots of energy left to play with the audience at the jamsession afterwards.
Thank you alle once again…cause as Liesbeth says: “Zonder publiek geen muziek”
And to finish with :Thanks you alsof or the lovely presents and congratualtions for the 75th !!!!
Summerfolk 7
Zaterdag 26 juni
OH what a day….what an evening….what a night…..
How we all enjoyed this very Scottish happening…..
This time Summerfolk(allready the seventh time )was a bigger happening then before.
I didnt plan that really ,but things came just along and there seems to be so much interest for playing at the open mic per example.
So I decided to start earlier….serving the buffet in between and then a really fantastic double headliner ,both from Scotland.
Young and old….we did have a great mix for everyone.
ALSO a premier for singing in Gaelic. How I love this language..its so pure…so mystical ….
We did start the open mic allready at 16.30h with :
Jan van der Klei opening.
He performed their before and once again it was a great succes. Such good choice for songs, like allways….this time also songs from Dan Mc Kinnon….We will see him at Summerfolk 9 (this great singer/songwriter all the way from Canada is allready booked for a little tour in Holland, something the same Jan van der Klei did start up.
Second performance was from :
Jan Nijkmap ,a new face for the open mic, but a man with much experience, knowing so much from folk&more and did make a big impression on me at the many jamssession he did stayed in for.So i was very happy when he said YES when I did ask him to perform.
Third it was turn to once agian (somebody said for the 6th time returned, really could be true, cause so many people does like him to play and so do I ,so I invites him again and again to :
Musoius(Martijn Breeman) Those who know him loves him and the new faces in the audience were also much enthusiastic..it really is a must have on my Summer party each year… He is a very good singer/songwriter with very funny lyrics and the way he is performing looks like seeing a troubadour in the Middle ages.
Then the new just formed duo Danny Kegel(from Sheep)and Roxanne Biesheuvel, called:
Minstrel Season came at stage. I saw them once before at a very special birthday party and was much impressed then and so I was now. I did recognize most songs cause there were put on their lovely new cd,which I bought at that party then
Danny Kegel didnt have to go off stage, cause he is just on of the sheeps ,so three other sheeps joined in almost directly aftr and so:
SHEEP ON THE BOAT did play for the second time at Summerfolk (we saw them with Pilgrims Way –Summerfolk 5 and last year May as a support for Bill Parker
There are marvellous I think…allways when they stop I do want to hear a lot more…
happy enough I could book in two of them who formed another duo, called Nimue, where the two Ladies from Sheep will play this October coming.
Original stopping the open mic there ,but there was a singer on the way who I did promise he could sing at my party more then a year ago,and silly me I did forgot all bout…had a feeling somewhere there could be somebody, but I didnt know who ….anyhow he did mail me just a week before..so offcourse he was most welcome. His name is Rob van Leersum, people called him a guitarwonder. He also was there before.
Then it was time for buffet and it was great…..people told me …
After the dinerbreak time for those amazing wonderful young Scottish folk people coming from the North part and Hebrides.singing part in Gaelic.
IT was so good……I did enjoy every moment of it……cant tell with words how I felt when I did listen to them…it all did feel so pure Scottish…that I did dream at a certain moment I was in Scotland.and realizing thats my favourite country to go to, you can imagine I felt very very happy.
Lovely people this trio also to talk with. we had a lovely time with them the whole weekend…Hope to see them back again and again and again.
Thank you ever so much Mischa Mc Pherson,Ali M Levack and Innes White to say YES when I did just write a little note on your mailing list when I saw you at the Perthshire Amber festival last October ,but wasnt able to talk with you then afterwards, cause I did have to take the trolleybus back from Dunkeld to Pitlochry. With the question;””Please do you wnat to play at my lounge?”
It was so nice I was able to make a lovely combination with the great singer/songwriter Bill Adair, which cd’s I love so much.Such good lyrics and What a beautiful voice he has and how flexible to sing a song together with the trio afterwards. Thanks a lot Bill coming all this way dow ,lovely to finally meeting you too !
That was a bonus on the night.
Another bonus was certainly also the BIG BIG session from the audience in combination with the trio, who did have so much energy left to sing and play with them all together. Because it was a party eveything was possible(only the neighbours could stop us)(and they didnt..thank you Ellen Peeman for it (Yvonne was in Edinburgh that moment) So by the time we stopped and I did make the lounge back to normal (Thank you Maarten Willems for helping me out ) it was allready light again.
Special thanks also to Gwendolyn who was so sweet to share her harp with Mischa, cause she couldnt bring it to Holland with her …and to Nanja Bakker to,who did the same. It was lovely this way Misccould play….
AND Thanks to all the people who did join in once again.
Underneat some lovely reaction I did read from them…..
Linda Van TwistMartijn Breeman
ssie volgende keer.
Petrouchka Jansen Ja, was een leuke avond folk! En ook nog heerlijk gegeten
7:15
Goedemorgen Karin, nogmaals bedankt, ik heb genoten! XXX.
hoi Karin,.

Jan van der Klei Lovely day and night, end of season party with Bill Adair and the Mischa McPherson trio ( lovely singing voice) and I did a short performance singing two of Dan McKinnon's songs first The man of her dreams then Tommy Makem's Four green fields, finishing off with Dan's Remember me. plus lovely session afterwards.
Steve Ashley
Vrijdag 12 juni
AND there he came : Steve Ashley as mentioned “one of the best keep secrets of the British folk from the seventies”’
And to be honest when Koen from Zaandam did ask me to join in with Steve’s tour this summer, more then a year ago,I never heard from him before. But Koen was so enthusiastic and so was Dick so I start listening to his songs(not much to find on you tube, cause he doesnt like that) but I managed to hear something and I became enthusiastic too and I said YES to the proposol.
So when he arrived I wasnt sure what tot expect ,although I felt directly a very much positive atmosphere when he walked into my lounge ,cause what a positive energy did Steve bring in. Ready for a joke and smiling all the time, ever so friendly.
AND as soon as his gig started I was most impressed and overwhelmed by all his beautiful songs, How I love his voice and how I love his lyrics….SO REALLY GOOD ….!!!
Love to listen tot hem again and again .
AND I can ,because I was so lucky to buy a cd and its on my player for ever since many many many times.
Please come back Steve and dont wait another 20 years to visit Holland ….
It was also lovely to welcome some of Steve’s good old friends who did bring new face into my lounge to. Thanks to them to join in and also to everyone else (new and old faces )who came along once again and for those who stayed at the session …It was all lovely. Special thanks to Paul O’Brien who did introduce the wonderful Cathy Shannon to my lounge. Hope to see and hear more from this half Irish Lady at my lounge later on,cause the way she did sing “She moved through the fair “’ did give me gooseflesh .Just great…
Zaterdag 18 April
Saturday April 18 -2015.
More then a week ago now,but because I went ill for the whole week after, no time to write about.
BUT it still is freshly in my memory,so no problem.
Cause what a night we all did have.>>!!
A full house for the first time this season with also people on the waitinglist !
Maarten Willems came back to my lounge once again ,again with Fred Piek
(Helas without Frenk van Meeteren and I most certainly do hope he will be there again next time too.)
BUT this two man together proved to be a great combination.
How I love the way Fred Piek was singing some Maarten Willems selfpenned songs and how lovely he performed lots of his songs from the just recently came out cd”BALADS: which is certainly a must have, cause then you can again and again listen to all this lovely music. A great choice of songs from all over the years Fred did make and very well performed too with lots of anecdotes and humoristical interaction with the public.
Maarten once again made it possible to sing his songs as only he can do it and the result of it was:the public allways have this lovely songs in their head. So much of sing along was happenening too.
It was a lovely surprise ,because on the last moment there came a mysery guestplayer, none less then Ad Grooten from formely Pater Moeskroen (now playing at the group Mannen van Naam)He did find the way to my lounge and it was superb to hear him sing his beautiful selfpenned song about Eilanders.
It was also very facinating to listen to all his jokes and stories .
So it was all lovely…and so was the jam session afterwards with not that many people, but those who stayed in did give it all a new dimension and loads of inspiration from the ladies from England. Thank you all who joined in at this wonderful Saturdaynight.

Flossie Malavialle
4-3-2015
Flossie was there again last night….
This time without Parky, she did gave a really superb solo performance.
What a lovely Lady she is,
I love the way she tells stories between the songs with so much impression.Maarten Willems did make some great pictures to prove that.
She did made another good choice of lovely songs all together.A great mix from English folk, ballads…(one of Pete Abbott which was so very special…,and also the Eva Cassidy one makes me feel goose bumps..)and French chansons. One of my favourites too: La vie en rose….The way she sings that song is so absoluty amazing good.
….She was very happy to do some requests we did ask for,no problem at all.
We asked she did.
So we all had a happy feeling about.
Sad songs(miserable ones ) and songs with joy it all cames along, like sing along songs with good choruses, lots of interaction with the audience.
A very good opener she did with the sweet Irish song Teddy O’Neill, inspired to sing this because when she visited Australia people there tought she was from Ireland, she thought it would be nice to put a real Irish song at her repertoire.
It was like in the song she sung “What a wonderful life,”indeed a wonderful night.
She even did find time to stay a little while afterwards starting to sing with Pim Boekenstijn on guitar ,and did some meet&greet although she a long drive ahead going to Sneek leaving just before midnight.
So thank you ever so much Flossie Malavialle for coming back,….wishing you a great rest of your tour in Holland…..!!
Zondag 1 Februari 2015
LINDE NIJLAND &BERT RIDDERBOS.
It was a great winterafternoon at Karin’s lounge with Linde Nijland and Bert Ridderbos .
Of course Linde sang some Sandy Danny songs, but she also sang beautiful traditionals from Groningen
And other beautiful ballads from her new cd I am here ,well chosen by Linde and Bert.
Very special it was alo to hear Bert play a thought be Norwegian song but it was really a tune from Mozart .
Also very special it was to see unexpected Philip the Goey from the audience play on the whistle with a tune with Bert Ridderbos.
After the show as usual the music continued sessionwise, but first we all did enjoy a lovely buffet, made by a lot of people from the audience.
I'll mention some of the songs that came by: Engelberthus Pronk with the seashanty Douwe jongens douwe, Jolande Pronk:Who can sail without?
Great singer Cora van der Vrande in combination with Philip de Goey .Willem Bakker did sing some good English songs, and we even heard a tradtional from Ruwanda sung by a student from there, who also found his way to the lounge.
and still I leave some musicians unmentioned.
It was also super so many peopel did help me out with everything, cause I did wake up taht day with a fever and did feel very unwell, but as Bert said, paracetamol can do miracles…and so did they by singing and playing all those lovely music…Thanks Linde and Bert and all who joined in….
Paul O Brien
Support An Scadan Orga
13-12-14
What a lovely night we all had.
We started early with the support from An Scadan Orga ,who came even earlier to play a little to prepare their gig.
My grandson Jack was very interested and enjoyed when they played on request for him “In de Maneschijn”very much.
It is nice to realize he is almost old enough to sit on a chair and enjoy all this lovely folk music soon !!
It was a pity about eight people were on the last moment not well enough or had something else to do ,so they cancelled .
A piy cause they really did miss a great evening !
But after all at my lounge were enough people to create a lovely atmosphere…all together.
It was so good to enjoy the performance from An Scadan Orga,(Richard Schoon, whistle Charlie Chalmers,(vocals –guitar)Jessica de Korte(fiddle, vocals)&Nathalie Persoon-bodhran)
a folkgroup who was at my lounge before to support Phil Hare at October last year…
On request they came to support paul O brien, very special too for him, cuase yeras ago jessica plyed along with Paul on her fiddle. That was also when I did meet her for the firts time.
Many thanks to Jessica to sing one of my favourite Dougie Mclean ballads for me again ,the lovely song:”Garden Valley”
Good to see them as Phils support then and good to see them now .
They did grow a lot and its lovely to see the bodhran played by Nathalie,it gives the group certanly more power !
The gig from Paul, presented his new cd. Was once again lovely .
Once he started at my lounge to play at Summerfolk, then as a support for (also) Phil Hare (October 2011)AND the with Kate Huber on the whistle at November 2012.
Now he played solo, all his beautiful song.Regognized by some great fans..so we could sing along with many people.
How I love this fantastic storyteller ,who made out of stories (around family happenings and life circumstances)really wonderful lyrics and tunes.
Beautiful ballads came along because of this.
Ballads which are luckily enough on cds,to listen at home again &again.AND I can promise you once you are involved in all thes beautiful songs, its difficult to stop, its most wonderful.
Thanks to the musicians and anyone who came along to enjoy with me and played or listened at the session.
Vicki Swan&Jonny Dyer
15-11-14
What a lovely night we all had….It was superb to see the lovely duo Vicki Swan&Jonny Dyer back at my lounge.
They came for the third time.since I meet them at Warwick Folk Festival in 2006.
And again they were supported by three members from the Belgium folkgroup Botswing. Dimitri Cleas,Jos Tielens and Lode
Happy three off them made again a lovely support for the night. Happy that they played again some off my favourite Dougie McLean numbers.
Great to sing along with “”I feel so near” And ever so good to listen to the lovely ballad “Absent friends” ,the beautiful song I do love so much ,which did bring memoreis back to Vin garbutt, who was also once at my lounge.
And how I love to listen to Vicki Swan&Jonny Dyer with their hunting tunes on their beautiful instruments ,a lot came around: (we did need to make space in the kitchen fort hem all)smallpipes, accordeon, guitar, whistles and Vicki’s speciality the nickleharpa. A really very special instrument played ever so good by this Scottish/ Swedish Lady.A good choice of different tunes ,melodies and songs they perfomed at my lounge once again with a lot of interaction with the audience and talked together with funny jokes made by Jonny Dyer. Ever so good musician too.
So good to see that among thegoldie oldies there were people among the audience who did find my lounge for the first time.
A really BIG SESSIOn there was afterwards with two nickelharpa’s involved, loads of talents among the people who joined in.
SO thank you all so much for playing again at my lounge on this cold November night !!!
Greg Russell
September 20
YES
And then came Greg Russell.
How much I was looking forward to that gig.I did book in him for a more then a year ago . His manager did find out about my housceconcerts and asked me to book him in. And so I did, even I didnt know him,I thought it was nice to give a new young person a gig at my home.
The year went by,and then it became clear I did book a young talent, cause Greg did win The BBC horizon folk award with his duo mate Ciaran Algar, a really superb violinplayer of the next generation. So I even became more enthusiastic about.
AND THEN I went to the lovely Shrewsbury Folk Festival finding out the duo would perform there and so I went to watch, very curious now. I must say I didnt expect what I then saw. I WAS TOTALLY IMPRESSED…what a great musicians were performing there.HOW lucky I felt
…YES Greg is coming to my place too this coming September, we did meet,so enthusiastic he also was, looking forward to it coming over to do his firts gig in Holland ever. I could hardly wait ,you can understand.
Trying to give him a full house by promoting again &again, alsmost we did…SO then finally it became Saturday 20-9.
Greg allready arrived from Chester the night before,so we could spend a nice day sightseeing The Hague. He is a fan of Holland, went several times before on holiday,so it was also very specvial for
him to perform there now.
AND what a performance we all did get.
What a voice, what a good choice of songs&tunes. Very good interaction with the audience, nice chatting &jokes between. Lot of energy left for the meet&greet session.A really GREAT NIGHT we all had.
Thanks Greg for coming and play, thanks to all the people who joined in.AND a big pity for those who couldnt do so.
Very good news:
Greg was so enthousiatic he likes to come back with Ciaran Algar next season .!!!
So again something to look forward to !!
AND SAID BY:
Peter Martens
Geweldig !
Celtann-6 September 2014.
Opening of the season
(Annemarie de Bie)singer from Fling,solo.
At my home again……
She was there before to celebrate my birthday in March 2011 and how lovely she came back.
I did enjoy every moment of her performance.
I really think she is one of those greatest who did perform at my lounge.
What a great interaction with the audience this great lady has….what an energy..she went on&on…..
There was even no space anymore at the videosystem.
Such good choice of ballads &tunes.
Such a great surprise she sung three songs of Dougie Mc Lean for me as a real Dougiefan
It was something very very special.!!!
Specially the lovely song of “Garden Valley”she did with so much emotion,I could hardly hold my tears with …
Such good storytelling between.also
Lovely way of playing the bodhran too.
And she also stayed in for the session, even tough she had to drive back all the way up to Groningen in the middle of the night.
Also some people from there came specially down to see her at my home. And how nice it was meeting them too.Allways so nice to enjoy new people playing along at the session.
Thanks a lot everyone who did join in !

Summerfolk6-end of seasonparty
June 21th-2014 Roy Gullane
And then suddenly this folk season became also to an end. Allways nice to celebrate with a summer party. Seeing new people who do like to play at the open mic, organized before the head act of the night,in this case Roy Gullane ,solo (leadsinger from The Tannahill Weavers)ans seeing artists who came before and did like agian to perform. Also nice to discover new people among the guests. And so lovely to see a few people did stay for the session afterwards and with Roy,who had plenty of energy left they did make a lovely atmosphere. Lovely to hear the song “” Come closer to me my darling ”made by Maarten Willems It wasnt very often he did sing this in English life.
Within this article I will write about all the open mics artists in Dutch.
1: Eduard Bekker
3.Anneloes Middendorp
4. Stanilaus Jaworski
Stanilaus Jaworski is dichter.
Gedichtje:
Pimpelmees behouden vaart
Hoe zou het de twaalf pimpelmezen
net uitgevlogen vergaan? Zouden er
van het dozijn nog overgebleven zijn
hun pad gevonden in de natuur...
Belaagd door kraaien en Vlaamse gaaien
door reiger, rat en kat of botsing
met een reusachtige vrachtwagen
hangt het vogelhuisje vreemd leeg
hun geluiden stemmen herinnering.
6.Johnny Verger

Ze speelt al maanden 'hard to get'
8.AISLING= BEN VAN LEEUWEN &FRIENDS
Thanks a lot Wesley for joining in

And then after all this lovely performances there came finally the man where we all waiting for.
:Roy Gullane
He was at my lounge before at December 2009 and fitted in lovely then amongst my Christmas tree, but he also fitted in so well in this really summer atmosphere. What a lovely choice for songs he did made, what an atmosphere he did created,so much interaction with the audience, such a lovely way of singing together wit hall those lovely chorusses.AND how I love the way he is talking Scottish I said to the audience (Which is quiet normal people said to me,cause he is a Scot ) Loads of humor also of this great man, leadsinger from the great Scottish folkband The Tannahill Weavers.
So Very happy I felt to announce Roy Gullane was coming back to my lounge.
He was so good to say:”YES” to my offer, which I only could give at the last moment ,cause my original booked in artsist fro the night did say “NO”at the last moment.
However I did feel very honoured Roy did play at my lounge again.
Roy Gullane did perform solo tonight, most of time he is as a duo with Eric de Jong or with his lovely band The Tannahill Weavers. So real Scottish they are,how I love them !!And how I love Roy,listening to him again as a highlight on my end of season party.!!!!Thanks a lot Roy.
The site tells us: Roy, as many of you will know, is along with Phil Smillie one of the two longest serving professional members of the Tannahills. He plays guitar, sings lead vocals, tells silly stories, and keeps us all laughing through adversity on the road
Thank you all for joing in this night and to “my folkies”for coming along each time they can do.
- Its because of you I can keep going organizing this housconcerts and enjoying all those wonderful musicians. And what a great season we did get, celebration the end of it tonight.
Bill Parker with sheep on the boat
24-5-2014
Last Saturdaynight we had a lovely time with Bill Parker ,singer/songwriter from Arizona.
It was almost a year since Bill asked me to play at my lounge and ever since we did have a nice mailcorrespondence. So it was really something very special to meet him at last.
What a great man he is,a real story teller with a lovely view about all kind of things and how to live your life.
A man with a great life experience,so good reflected in the lyrics of his songs. He did sing with a strong voice, lovely to listen to.
He was introducing himself as just a man with a guitar, but he is so much more.It was a pity he couldnt bring his cd’s with him on the plane, all the way from USA ,a distance from about 6000 miles he made to travel to my little lounge.
How special and what a lovely surprise it was ,he did start with a selfpenned song for me:playing at Karin’s lounge
If you want to see and hear more about Bill Parker, just visit his website or try to catch him somewhere (again) in Holland, cause he will be touring around Holland for the next 5 weeks. For instance at Peter&Leni’s podium Cafe at Steendam.this Friday .
It was because of his friendship with Peter van Zeijl, Bill did contact me and I like to say Thank you peter for introducing this man to me.
The night was even more special, because Bill did get a superb folky
support from :Sheep on the boat. This new folkgroup just started at Februari 2013,had a start at my lounge last Summerfolk, played allready at a big stage at ELFIA.,and was there a my lounge again to play before Bill’s gig started.
What an energy,it all seems so easy the way they played,so well mix all together. Lovely combination these four people: Gert van der Slikke,Dagmar Cloosterman,Danny Kegel and Gwendolyn de Boer .
And what a lovely idea,it was they contact Bill by mailing and practizing with a big ocean between two continenents to share some songs together.
A nice and very funny surprise was Gert dressed up as an drunk Irish man.Hope to see more of them later on.
Thank you all who came along and all those who stayed at the session afterwards.Very special it was to meet Guido Debeus and Hans Teigeler, members of The Bues, the other totally different band of Danny Kegel and to realize when Danny started it up so well there can be suddenly arise a ballad……..!!
Tommy Sands
17-4-2014
A wondeful moment to start the Easter weekend was the playing of Tommy Sands at my lounge, last Thursday night.
How lucky I was, this big name from the legendary Sands family came on a little tour in Holland and decided to play at my little loun...ge too.
This is the man, who wrote one of my favourite Irish ballads, once so beautifully performed at my lounge by Celtann, who is coming back to open my new season !!Lucky me again
What a lovely voice Tommy has and what a good choice of lovely songs he made.
Also a very great story teller he is with loads of very nice jokes.
Really very funny indeed…
Surely it became another night to remember, among all those other concerts.
I do feel very happy about.
So thank you all who came along and those who stayed for the jamsession too.
It all ws very lovely again and:
Thank YOU dear Tommy Sands !!!
Duo optreden 12-4-14
March 9-2014
Pete Morton,with Chris Parkinson&Roger Wilson
Last night a very good night at my lounge. A lovely way to have an early celebartion of my birthday with my folk-friends.
Big surprise was the birthday song by the trio on requesttof Maarten Willems.
A good time we all had in a lovely atmosphere . Lots of interaction from the musicians with the audience. Funny jokes made it all very laughable.Specail the story abouth the Danish pastries.
Very good to see Pete Morton back at my lounge . He came for the third time, this time together with fiddle player Roger Wilson, who also is a great singer/songwriter himself.
Very special to hear him sing a song,as Parky did later with his accordion. Parky is Chris Parkinson and he came along earlier with Flossie Malavialle. It was very good to see him back again. I love the way he plays. !
About Pete Morton himself, lovely to see him this time with this two other musicians, this made this performance more folkie I think.
I love Pete songs and it was a great joy to hear them again.
Songs like the Luckiest man,When we sing together and Another train makes me allways very goose bumps.
It was a lovely night, thanks a lot everyone who came along !!
2-2-2014
Hannah Martin&Philip Henry
The second winterafternoon was also a big succes.
It was so special to see the lovely young folk duo Hannah Martin from Devon from Lancashire and Philip Henry at my lounge. How superb they did made the atmosphere. I was already very enthusiastic about their new cd,did put it on for so many nights,so it was a good way to recognize all the songs and tunes.
Really very impressed... by their performance in this little lounge. I saw them on stage at Warwick Folk Festival in 2012 and it was after that show I wnet to them to ask them in. Lucky me they said yes.
Their biography tell us:
Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin are one of the most exciting and innovative duos to appear on the folk/roots/acoustic scene in recent years. They have been nominated for 'Best Duo' in the 2014 BBC Folk Awards. With a rapidly expanding following and a truly unique sound that effortlessly spans many genres, the duo have been touring constantly for the past three years, winning new fans of all ages wherever they go. Festival appearances have included regular Glastonbury slots; all the major folk festivals including mainstage slots at Sidmouth Folk Week; Broadstairs; Warwick; Shrewsbury; Gate To Southwell; Shepley Spring; Priddy; and a constant presence on the greenfield festival circuit, at events such as Larmer Tree (mainstage); Sunrise Celebration (mainstage); and Green Man.
So we did all have a superb time with this two friendly people, who even had the energy to stay and join in at the session afterwards.
A wonderful buffet and session it was once again, thanks to all the old(and new)folkies who stayed to play and listen and even more special cause my grandson Jack decided to dance also seeing the beautiful example of Kate(Richards daughter) doing some Irish dancing.Very impressed !Thanks all.
Tom Mc Conville&Chris Newman
Sunday Januari 26 -2014
The first winterafternoon at my lounge.
The first concert of 2014…and how lovely it was.
Tom Mc Conville came back for the third time to my lounge. He was there in 2010 and 2012 before)
This time he took his good friend Chris Newman with him.He did make a joke about, saying:
””.I do play with my good friend this time, but not to often, cause we like to stay friends”
It was a wonderful combination.
Ju
Chris Newman a great British acoustic guitarist I saw playing at Warwick folk festival in 2006 as the partner of the Irish harper Máire Ní Chathasaigh, And how special it was to see him now at my own lounge.
Underneath the biography of Tom.

Simon Kempston,with the Teetotallers
14 December 2013
Last Saturday we did have the last concert of this year at my lounge
A special winternight in Christmas atmosphere.
It was very special to listen Simon Kempston, a young Scottish singer/songwriter from Dundee, based in Edinburgh. He is travelling a lot around Europe and did wait more then 2 years for the possibility to play at the lounge cause bizar enough ,its allways so much filled in here with loads of artists who do like to play on this very little stage.
However he finally came and did sing a lot of his own work.
Good storytelling about the songs and between with several jokes.
An acoustic fingerstyle guitarist composed and performed original and contemporary acoustic music steeped in the traditions of folk, celtic and blues music.
The songs bear all the hallmarks of an experienced craftsman who works tirelessly to produce music which is captivating, beautiful, distinctive, and above all, relevant.
And most important a very sympatic man in his way of manners, and I most appreciate how he did play with my grandson Jack. However it was lovely to meet him .
Very special it also was the way the Dutch folkgroup The Teetootalers played at his support.
They played before ,more then two years ago to support Daithi Rua in my lounge .
Although good they were then, but very much growed together now and they did play 30 minutes real good folk.
A good choice of music, played with lots of energy bringing to us the real folky atmosphere like we were in Ireland and Scotland all together.
As they said on their site they are really in for every pubsong, knowing how to transform the area into a very lively active place to be.
You can hardly stay sit down on your chair ,but would like to join in and dance all the time.
Between beautiful ballads came along and it was a big surprise ,to hear Cathinca van Sprundel sing one of my favourite Dougie mc Lean songs “Caledonia”
A very enthuasiastic band they are these three young people.
Beautiful instruments they know all about.
Lovely to see and hear Dries Coone play on his whistles, really great.
And how superb Tijn Berends was playing on his mouth-organ combinated with his guitar.thats one of my favourite combinations in the folk music.
Interesting to know Tijn is also playing as a duo with Erik de Jong. I saw them at Noordfolk, the lovely festival Bert Ridderbos and Linde Nijland did organize last October and was very impressed there too. Hope to catch them as a support in future…?!
Thanks everyone who came along to join in at this last concert of the year, which was in the beginning quite hard to fill in-(only 12 people on the guestlist)-but in the end a lot more came along, so we had almost a full house there.
Thanks also to Sheep on the boat who were all there too and stayed in so nicely for the lovely session More abpout them as a support for Bill Parker ,May coming and to the other musicians, who did again. And so nice there were new people too who did sung lovely on the session...Thank you Anneloes Middendorp.,so happy we meet at the Tannahill Weavers ,last november .And how great Simon did have the energy to play also along there, cause he had an early rise to do next morning, leavingf for Breittany to play an Sunday afternoon gig overthere.
And last but not least:Thank to Maarten Willems who did lead this session ago like he did so many times before.!
OTHER ROADS
13-11-13
And then they came back. The lovely band Other Roads(former members of the John Wright band)
For a long time I knew they would be at my lounge again, this november month. And so the audience knew.I did have a full house booked in allready at a very early day. AND SO we had a very well filled in lounge for these three musicians, who toured last week in Denmark and had there first gig in Holland this tour at my place.
How lovely they were. Nice to see them before the gig and my grandson Jack was very impressed by them all.He prefered reading books with Gregor and keep them busy all the time.
Their performance was really fantastic. They had a lot of interaction with the very enthusiastic audience, real fans who came from all over Holland to my lounge. The atmoshere was lovelt and there was a lot of sing along to do !!
Beautiful ballads sung by graet singer/songwrites :Pete Abott & Dave Walmisley mixed between very lively fiddle music played by the great fiddleplayer Gregor Borland .It feels like we were in Scotland.
Afterwards there came a nice session, although it did start up a little bit slow, because there was a lot of meet&greet to do with the guys from the band.
And also of the late show with lots of encores,we did start quiet late.So it wasnt that well organized at that part, but never mind, its just the way the session can be after this kind of lounge concerts. The plan is there is allways the possibility for a session afterwards, but also for a meet&greet and sometimes that takes a little bit longer then expected. Nevertheless at the lounge sessions there will allways be room for people to play, sing, dance ,whatever, all togehter or just by themselves. That is what I like very much about this informal possiblity that the people can show what they want. Sometimes its lovely all together ,people now what they are doing, sometimes just duo’s or a solo performance.GREAT…I love it.. Thanks to all people who played again afterwards during the session. And also to the visitors who came to watch, cause without them it wouldnt be the same…like OTHER ROADS said….!!
At the end of the open mic it was pleasure to watch Paul O'Brien, this time not together wit Kate Huber. With his sensitive songs about Dublin,a very good ending of the open mic. More about Paul &Kate you can see at Sat Oct 8 at folk in the lounge.
Afterwards a cosy intimate session with Paul O'Brien,Maarten Willems,Rieke Pronk,Lideke van Gool ,Toos van Leeuwen en Adri Richter.
Maarten Willems
Zaterdag 24 April 2011
April 24
Last night again a gig of Dutch singer/songwriter Maarten Willems.
He played together with Frenk van Meeteren,he made a fantastisc extra dimension for the blues songs.
He played very good onthe banjo.
On the last moment Kate was asked to play on the whistle during a poem Maarten spoke.
Maarten was saying his beautiful poems with passion, with on the background pictures of aquarels Jeroen van Duyn maid from pictures Maarten made.
Very good.
Lovely evening with new audience and goldie oldies,
The session was made by Kate….and PaulO'Brien, with new coming Willem Jan Korengevel on concertina, fascinating instrument, with I hold by coincidence the evening before,a very old one of Maartens dad from a long time ago.
Frenk and Maarten completed the session. An evening I hope will repeats itself,a special day anyway, because in the afternoon I was invited because of a little article in the newspaper to come to the studio of rtvdiscus for an interview. It was very special to be there with Maarten to talk about the houseconcerts, Biografie Maarten Willems Maarten Willems schrijft al geruime tijd gedichten en liedjes.
Saturday March 12 Celtann(Annemarie de Bie,singer of folkgroup Fling) sometimes as supportact fro RAPALJE came to play a gig in my lounge. She created an Irish atmosphere, with her voice, her guitar, bodhran and lowwhistle and it felt if we were in an Irish landscape.I think it was very special to celebrate my birthday with her.She talked with a lot of humour between the soungs.I think it was fantastic. Annemarie also had left a lot of energy to play with the session musicians. There came a lot of them,so again it was like magic. Thanks to Ben van Leeuwen and Marianne,Monique Gregory,Hanneke and Arie Janissen,Judith and Jan?,Ko Arkestijn,Henk Dorrestijn,Rieke Pronk,Anneke Holt,Maarten Willems,Frank Verlaan,Govert Willems and new Paul O'Brien, who sung lovely his beautiful songs. And to all other friends, who made my birthday to a unforgettable evening.
Vrijdag 4 Maart-
Friday March 4th-First dancing in the lounge. During dancing in the lounge CAJUN CRAZE(Fred van Hemert.acoustic guitar and vocals,Elena Nakovska, fiddle and vocals&Nout Grupstra, melodeon, fiddle and vocals) played a try -out.A total try-out,cause this was the first time ever there was organized " a dancing in the lounge", a select audience came after it,and there seems place for 4 copples to dance, even an English circle with a caller.Enthousiastic audience, enthousiastic musicians,a very enjoyable night. There was a lot of dancing going on,and Maarten Willems teached the musicians a Bouree Theux, because people can easily dance a Scottish on a Cajun tune, but not very much a bourree. After all a very good night.Do it again??
SARAH MCQUAID
Woe 2 Febr.-2011
And then there was Sarah back again…. After 2 years SarahMcQuaid came back on tour to Holland,I was happy she accepted my invitation to do a concert in the lounge again. So that means she was at my home for the third time, cause she was the original starter of the regular serie of these kind of concerts, since she came first in 2008 to celebrate my birthday. This time there was a absolute full house for Sarah. A lot of people came to see her and enjoyed to play the session afterwards, happy to see Sarah. Sarah played and sung loveley own written songs, which will be recording this June on a new cd hopefully, and some traditionals with her beautiful warm voice. One of the people who came around mentioned later,"I felt in love with Sarah when she started to sing." Hope to see Sarah back again&again.
..."Pure magic!! ... I never experienced such a thrilling interaction between artist and audience who rewarded you with three encores!! You have the ability to create an intimate atmosphere with your stories, songs and guitar playing and make the audience part of the gig."
SALTYDOG
Nieuwjaarsconcert 2011. Genieten dus!!! Translation: SALTY DOG. New Yearsconcert 2011 Last night a SUPERB night at folk in the lounge. The Hague-folkduo Maarten Willems and Frank Verlaan, specialised into Irish and Scottish folk, played to welcome the New Year. There was a lot of audience, and they enjoyed all because of this wonderful performance. Instrumentionals along with beautiful ballads, pronounced humoristic by Maarten and Frank.were enjoyable from the start till the end of the evening. And even then the night wasn't over, because there came an afterward session. A lot of people stayed to sing and play along. Its very nice that all the sessions in the lounge are different ,each time, surprisely because of the instruments, spontanic combinations and intiatives. So because of this: time to enjoy. Thanks to, among others: Hanneke and Ari Janissen, who came from Tilburg, and play every year on the Robin Hoodfestival around Nottingham with the Crazy Dutch regulars(see link on this site)Ben van Leeuwen, who leads every two weeks on Tuesday a session in Café de Tregter in Leiden,Iris Willems who sung along with the Dutch songs,Frank Verlaan,Maarten Willems, sessionleader,Engelberthus and Jolande Pronk, goldie oldie visitors,Govert Willems on spoons, Rieke Pronk on fiddle and Henk Dorrestijn who performed his own song "Poor Johanna. Wim v.d. Hoeven made this night extra special because of the lovely drawings he made of this evening.
Niamh Parsons
14 December 2010
Simon Oak,among the audience, and ne of them wrote a little article about it:(thanks Siem for posting)
Normal 0 21 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Niamh and Graham at Karin's
They're so inspiring! Niamh and Graham performed lovely songs like
Valentine O'Hara
, Black is the Colour
, Carrigfergus
, 1917
, John Condon
, etc, etc. A special mention to the song
The San Patricio's
, followed by some real Mexicano-style guitar playing of Graham. And it all sounded so natural, honest and right from the heart. You just can't imagine how beautifull this was, if you weren't there.
Also the intimate session afterwards was lovely. Not before waving out Niamh and Brian, I dared to start off with
Look At The Coffin
as a tribute to Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers and as a proof of how bizar the irish tradional songs sometimes can be. Toos and her friend did some lovely singing, Blue Monday's Hans sang
Dublin In The Rare Old Times
and
The Town I Loved So Well
and did a very nice reel on his inimini squeezebox. Maarten and his friend
did
Douwe Jongens Douwe
again and I could do
A Roving Blade
and
Spancil Hill
. I promised Maarten to learn the lyrics of the famous
Boulavogue
for next time.
And last but not least: I promised my new guitar to never leave him at home anymore.
Thanks Maarten for borrowing yours!

The irish duo Naimh Parsons &Graham Dunne let you "melted""with Irish heartbeatsongs. They bring you in the special warm atmosphere,we recognize from the dark days before Christmas.
Niamh is important as collector and singer of the Irish songs.
Her voice qualities are very emotional and clearly
A talented singer like Niamh Parsons, you only meet once or twice in a generation.
An evening with Niamh is an evening pure enjoying of very pure touching Irish heartbeat songs.
One of the most beautiful and expressive voices in all of Ireland. Niamh Parsons has the ability to climb into a song, take ownership and then sing it for the listener to experience--not simply hear."

Fantastic evening with Pete Morton, very good to saw him back in my lounge, again a full house.
Beautiful lyrics, beautiful sung by Pete on his high level.
Enthusiastic audience, new faces, old faces. Thanks to all who were there.
Special session afterwards, with thanks to Renate &Dirk Egberts,Anneke Holt,Kees bakker,Jerry Kooyman and Maarten Willems.
FROM AN ARTICLE ABOUT HIM :
Pete Morton is one of the best English singer/songwriters.He has a beautiful voice, sounds like Cat Stevens, and plays guitar on his own special way.His songs are about all situations in life, from love to politicy, from personal stories to worldnews. But although his lyriscs are a bit dark sometimes, there is always a light waiting on the horizon. His song"Another train" is a classical and for a lot of people on the whole world a song of hope. His latest cd"Casa Abierta"contains 10 songs in 10 different languages. He also is brave enough to sing in Dutch the song"Avond" from Boudewijn de Groot.
At the beginning of next year, there will be another new cd,with some beautiful tracks,we allready know from his gigs; Good enough for me, The gorilla song,The sock on the line,Bigger then life,When we sing together.A lot of singer/songwriters are a little bit introvert, not Pete ,he is superb entertainer with his typical English humour and self knowledge.(from www.folkforum.nl)www.petemorton.com
BIG SESSION-folk in the lounge at Karin's nr. 1
November 2010
And between all those concerts Bob,Billy,Ewan,David and Pete,we did have totally unexpected a big session, in my lounge. It all started with a meeting on Warwick folk festival last Summer, with the great musician Pete Grassby. Hope he is coming back one day to give a gig in me lounge, or somebody else of this wonderful musicians all together.
However these four musicians were on their way to Germay, for a couple of gigs ,came by ferry to the Hook of Holland, and because of that could stay in my home for just one BIG MUSICAL EVENING - and an overnight. We has a beautiful musical evening, very good atmosphere and also lots of humour. Hope they are going to stop again&again in my home,it really was superb to meet this lovely people. Thanks for being there Pete, Martin, Jon and Gilly, it was all great -
Thanks also to the guest players who joined in ,because they saw my invitation on facebook.
Because of this I have the idea to do more spontaneous sessions, so watch my facebook and join in.

Ewan McLennan&David Ferrard
7 November 2010

On Sunday November 7th,EwanMclennan&David Ferrard played a fantastic concert in my lounge.I saw David in the Pleasance, folkclub in Edinburgh, and listened many times on you tube to Ewan, and was completely impressed.Because of that I looked forward to the gig very much, and the reality was even more then I expected. It became a SUPERB night.Ewan McLennan grow up in Scotland and showed in his music a big Scottish repertoire. His very good guitarplaying and unique voice were all used in his passionate performance. He sung and played beautiful, from traditionals ballads up to dansmusic and melancholic tunes for just guitar.
David Ferrard,is a Scotiish/American singer/songwriter.His Trans-Atlantic roots could be recognized in his music and sung of his own compositions, and showed very much his longing for justice and peace.
A good plan,is to see David and Ewan in future again in my lounge. They are certainly enthusiastic for that.Again there was a full house, and everybody joined in for the chorus enthusiasticly. There only could stay a few people for the session afterwards,so it became small and intimate.Very good to meet new musicians again,Thanks to Auke Hofstra and Ben van Leeuwen.
ABOUT EWAN MC LENNAN
Ewan McLennan has been making headlines over the last year, performing at festivals, clubs, and concert halls across the country. Of Ewan's singing BBC Radio 2's Mike Harding has said "he sings beautifully, with great sincerity, great empathy, he's terrific!", while his classical-influenced folk guitar playing has been described as "stunning". His music combines traditional music from around Britain and beyond, with a particular focus on the music of Scotland, where he was brought up. But Ewan retains a unique and compelling sound of his own in which traditional songs run parallel to his own earthy, self-penned songs.
Quotes:
'I was completely and utterly bowled over by Ewan's music...one of the most exciting new voices I've heard in years.'
Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2
'Only once in a while do you hear a new voice, a new sound that is really worth listening to. Ewan McLennan is definitely one such.'Martin Simpson
About his new cd:
With a gorgeous lilling voice,a quietly assured and commanding presence and some smart guitar arrangements,it's the tender sincerity of McLennan's own performance that makes the album so moving-..
-.a resoundingly fresh -sounding album of folksongs.Ewan McLennan well be the best singer you ll hear all year.
ABOUT DAVID FERRARD.
I saw David as a support act of Vin Garbutt last May in Edinburgh folkclub, and he was fantastic, very honoured he is coming to play in me lounge with Ewan McLennan.
-Half Scottish, half American,David built an impressive reputation in Britain in the unsubscribed of songwriting-.a gentle voice-the songs are mostly tradiotional, but they carry a ceas resonance for ferrard-..he won the Darny Kyle award at Celtic Connections in 2006-..david is a serous ballad singer-..
About David's cd
Brought up and still bases in Edinburgh, the young Ferrard crosses the atlantic regurlarly with his nmother to her family home in Pensylvania, and in his second album he pays homage to the great song traditions that unite his two countries.
Songs of hardship, love and compassion, created by unknown authors of traditions,as well as Robert Burns-.were recorded in a studio in Carolina-.an album that feels like a home coming.

Biography BOB FOX
Bob started 2003 with a busy schedule, including extensive tours in the UK, a third US tour, a return to Australia to perform at the National Festival in Canberra and Fairbridge Festival in W.A. and continued with appearances at some of the most prestigious Folk Festivals in England throughout the Spring and Summer. He also signed a 3 CD deal with TOPIC RECORDS, the first one entitled BORROWED MOMENTS" released on Sept 2003 immediately received ecstatic reviews. Bob was nominated Best Folk Singer once again in the 2004 Folk Awards and his version of the Chris Leslie song My Love is in America, recorded on "BORROWED MOMENTS", gained a nomination for Best Original Song.
Biography Billy Mitchell
Billy started playing the guitar in the early sixties when they were all made of wood and mostly the same colour.
He formed a 'beat group' with some pals at the local youth club and played local clubs and pubs till the sad arrival of full time employment forced their demise. He then joined with former beat group pals to form a 'folk group' during the great 'folk scare' of the late sixties and early seventies. The Callies showed the good people of Newcastle what they thought folk music should sound like. They recorded one album, went to London, didn't like it... then came home. After a spell in Vancouver, Canada, Billy was invited to return to England to join Jack the Lad with members of the recently split Lindisfarne . Then followed four albums and four years touring the UK and Europe, playing every venue known to man and some that weren't-At the end of the seventies he joined with Peter McIntyre to form the hilarious Maxie & Mitch who have spent the last twenty four years playing music in a very funny way to people all over the world who fancied a laugh-1996 saw Billy join Newcastles' favourite sons Lindisfarne who enjoyed critical acclaim for their live concerts in the UK and the USA, and their subsequently-released albums of new songs Here Comes the Neighbourhood and Promenade.Since Lindisfarne's retirement in 2003, Billy has embarked on a very successful solo career with his Backtrackin' show and CD, and in 2005 he recorded The Devil's Ground album, which received critical acclaim and extensive radio play.
In 2006, he celebrated his 60th birthday by forming the first ever Billy Mitchell Band, who played an emotional 'sell out' concert at The Sage, Gateshead.
Billy has recently dipped back into his 'folk roots' by collaborating with Bob Fox on two UK tours and a highly acclaimed 'live' album Five-star B&B.
From page folk on the moor folkclub:
Bob Fox
To say Bob is a class act hardly does his talents justice, I saw him recently at a major festival and witnessed one of the most polished and moving performances I have ever seen. His lovely segue of "Waters of Tyne" into "Big River" was a genuine highlight. As far as FOTM is concerned, we can all recall that it was Bob who started us off at our current venue... but then we also remember his appearance with Benny Graham.... more elsewhere! Bob also has some superb recordings... I love the "Hush" album!
•September 13th '09... without doubt, a glorious night of exceptional music from two of the very best in the business. If you were there, you know what I mean when say it was dazzling stuff and truly moving, too.
Season 2010/2011
DAITHI RUA
4 SEPTEMBER 2010
TRANSALATION:
Last year he opened the folkseason of folk in the lounge at Karin's and he did it again this year.
On many request he came back in my lounge, and again it was a wonderful night, with afterwards a superb session with lot of new faces of musicians, young ones from the band THE TEETOTALLERS,Siem Eikelenboom, someone who knows about folk,Hans Woudenberg, and friends, musicians ,longtime fans of Daithi, and last to mention , but not least SIMPLY GREEN,a Irish band from The Hague, they made the session very Irish,so wonderful filled with energy,so I was tempted to do a dance with Maarten Willems from SALTY DOG on one of their tunes. And just like last year also Daithi had a lot of energy left to play with the session with beautiful Irish tunes.Very happy I was also with one of my Scottish favourites of Dougie Mc Lean---Caledonia.Thank you all for being there, listening and joining in.
Over Daithi-.

About Daithi
From NewFolksounds 2005-to make a change after all the instrumental tunes, they invited Daithi Rua,as a guestplayer,he sung a wonderful version of the Lakes of Pontchartrain, one of the best I ever heard. His voice sounds like Christie Moore, his performance seems like Luka Bloom-
From Wikipedia:
Daithi Rua is Irish for Red David, the artistname of David Donegan.he is an irish singer and guitarist,he was born in Ireland and listened since he was a child to the music of the Dubliners and Planxty very often, also he was influenced by The Fureys,Moving hearts and the Pogues.David Donegan was very good with his voice and guitar and from pubs and youthhouses he started his way as a musician.More then 10 years later he still is on stage. For the present he lives in Gent, good spot for all kind of directions all through Europe.Solo or with his bandmembers. He was inspired by musicians like Luka Bloom,Nanci Griffith and Andy Irvine.

SUMMERFOLK 2
Zaterdag 19 Juni 2010
Vicki Swan&Jonny Dyer
Summerfolk 2
2010 /18 Juni
On Saturdaynight we did Summerfolk2,a party ending of the folkseason-folk in the lounge at Karin's.
A year passes by very quickly, one of the guest wondered that it allready was a year ago, since we did the first Summerfolk, with King's Galliard and an open mic.
This time also very succesfull,a lot of audience, with VERY much instruments, for the session afterwards.
The open mic(without a microphone)went very well, gigs for everyone,Dutch listen songs from Henk Dorrestein with Maarten Willems, beautiful American songs by Adri Richter and Toos van Leeuwen, real Irish folk by Lucky Spoons, and two members of Botswing, a Belgian folkgroup :Dimitri Claes and Jos Tielens played wonderful at the end.Beautiful sounds.
Who knows someone of these will come back for a whole evening.
The big attraction were Vicki Swan &Jonny Dyer,I think it was very special they came over for a weekend on my request just for Summerfolk. They did well also on Sunday, when they went with Maarten Willems to the studio and played with him and Frenk van Meeteren for Maarten's new cd,also they played as duo some beautiful instrumental tunes, composed by Maarten.Just great all those instruments, and what a wonderful sound from the nickelharpa,I think its beautiful.
So I really enjoyed this superb evening full with English/Swedish folk.humoristic talked between by Vicki and Jonny,a superb life performance.
Also the session was great.
An evening, because of all the enthuastic people a beautiful memory of the end of the season,to enjoy in mind.

TomMcConville
27 januari 2010
On Wednesday Januari 27th 2010,Tom mcConville played a solo gig at my home.I saw him before at Warwick Folkfestival, and later on ,at t'Soldaatje, folkclub Noordwijkerhout, with Aaron Jones and Claire Mann,I bought then 3 cds and listen to them a lot.I think it was great he did want to come and play in my lounge, and it really was great.
Beautiful ballads, with fiddleplaying solos between and after.Fantastic the way he can play fiddle and singing together. And between the songs time to talk humouristic.Although he left Newcastle in the middle of the night,he still had energy left to play enthousiast with the session afterwards.A nice session, with some new faces,Jerry Kooyman, who played very good covers from John Denver and DonMcLean and Nout Grupstra, who did bring a copple of instruments and is looking for a fiddleplayer for his own band(Cajun)Again it was a wonderful evening, with a well filled lounge, with a good singing audience.
Thanks for coming .

He is one of the leading fiddleplayers of our time.
A virtuose musician and fantastic singer, his rich and warm voice makes his interpretation of traditional and competary song, greatly admired by singer all through the world.
He plays the fiddle in a long life passion.,musical delights from fast, rhythme dance tunes, through beautiful slow airs.

Roy Gullane.
Roy Gullane
On Fridaynight December 11 -2009
Roy Gullane came to play a gig at my home.
In the newspaper I read a little article of Jessica de Korte, saying a Scot in the lounge-or like a Dutch saying a S-hot in the heart-
And indeed-it was totally good-really fantastic and really Scottish.
I knew him from the Tannahill Weavers, and heard he did want to play solo.
Since a short time he also has a solo cd,order viawww.amiestreet.com
It became a fantastic night, with a full house, with a lot of enthousiatic public.
Roy played a repertoire of songs he choose by himself in 3 sets, and he still had energy left to play along with the session.
He talked between with funny little stories.
Roy said, he like to come back another time, and thats certainly something to look forward to,a real Scotsman in my lounge, with a great charisma and a beautiful voice, what more do a person want .
See also nice pictures in my fotoverslag, made by photographer Michel v/d Heuvel.
Roy, as many of you will know, is along with Phil Smillie one of the two longest serving professional members of the Tannahills. He plays guitar, sings lead vocals, tells silly stories, and keeps us all laughing through adversity on the road. He also has taken on the persona of booking agent for the band in the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium.
Roy has also done a lot of songwriting. He has recorded a solo album called "Not Only But Also..." including many of his own songs plus other favorites that he'd always wanted to record but hadn't had the chance.

There was even a little article in the local newspaper 13/11,wrote by Jessica de Korte
FOLK IN THE LOUNGE
Irish music sounds best in a cosy, intimate space, that's the reason Karin Pronk invites regular musicians into her lounge, near de Dedemsvaartweg.
This Sunday its Kieran Halpins turn.
His tracks were covered by artists, like Ilse de Lange and Niamph Parsons, and this year he allready brings his 19 album.
A hardworking singer/songwriter so.
Musicians can bring their instruments ,because of the Irish habit there will be a possibility for a session afterwards.

HOWEVER IT WAS ENJOYABLE. FOR EVERYONE WHO WAS THERE AGAIN ,THANKS.
Pete Morton
Nice memories:pictures+you tube filmpjes.
ARTIKEL OVER HEM
Good enough for me, The gorilla song, The sock on the line, Bigger than life, When we sing together.
PETE MORTON
On Saturday October 24th Pete Morton played in my lounge..
I saw him for the first time in Folkclub "t soldaatje-Noordwijkerhout",en thought he was FANTASTIC, the cd I bought then I put on and on,and what started as a joke with a friend Monique, like: "I m going to ask him ,if he wants to sing at my home",became really true.He just accepted the invitation, and came special for me from England to Holland, just for a weekend..It was a fantastic gig, with a lot of audience, who also sing along with him.It was very special to hear him sung Dutch.Nice memories:pictures+you tube videos.

Daithi Rua
Sept 2009

Daithi Rua,or Red David, because as he said by himself,of his long red hair.
I saw him for the first time on the boulevard in Scheveningen, during the festival Ireland on sea, with Aidin Burke.I was most impressed.
Later I saw him back in Vlaardingen(nov 2008) and in Mulligans-Amsterdam,this summer,with Ed Veltrop.FANTASTIC.
Shortly after that I asked him,if he want to come and play a gig at my place, and he was very enthusiatic to do so.
His performance on Sept 6th was really very impressing.
Afterwards he played also with a lot of energy along with the session,a lot of Irish/Scottish traditionals came along.
Also his friend from Belgium,Pluim joined in to sing a Gaelic song.
Daithi is much on tour in Norway and Belgium, but luckily enough now and then in Holland too,and he said he certainly want to come back in my lounge to play another gig.

Sarah McQuaid
Febr 2009
Lets hope so!!!

SARAH MCQUAID
Sarah mcQuaid performed twice in my lounge, both concerts were very succesfull.
At the first concert she surprised me to sing into Dutch too..
The second time Maarten Willems played with her on his fiddle, with the titlesong of her first cd.
I saw her for the first time in 2007,when she gave a gig at the yearly Sidmouth folkfestival, and thought she was great. Her first cd,which I thenbought, was for many times on my cdplayer.
Since then she made a second cd,in a more American atmosphere, and now she works on a 3th cd.This will be ready by the end of the year.

SEASON 2013-2014
JudithHaswell&Trish McLean
Saturday Sept 21
Two ladies from Yorkshire came to the lounge at Saturday September 21th to open the new season of the loungeconcerts.
To be honest I didnt really know what to expect, I did listen to them at you tube It,sounded nice...but it was because of the advise from Vin Garbutt to invite them to my home.
Well how well it was to listen to Vin. They were marvellous.
The way they performed was just great.
Beautiful lyrics, lovely tunes, two great voices which sounded so perfectly together ..
It was all did fit in so good. They did start with the swallow song, they told us that’s the way they always open.Well it was really overwhelming for the audience. After that they went on with several totally different songs, but it all was in a perfect combination.
A lot of interaction with the audience, loads of British humor.
Also ballads with a sad story.
A big impression on me made the lovely written song by Trish about her great granda who died in the first world war and left her great gran mother with seven small children behind.
A lot of chorusses, with the songs, well told by them before we had to sing. It all worked out lovely. So we did share a superb night all together to celebrate the opening gig of this new season….!!!
Happy I do have their lovely cd now :“beginning to see the light “äs a lovely memory.
Summerfolk 5.
PILGRIMSWAY
My end of seasonparty ,
To start with an open mic with:
*Fabian Schrama,wasnt he lovely?
The way he played and sung was really very good. I felt honoured that ,although he is used to bigger audiences he was perfectly ok which such a small space as folk in the lounge is.
Henk Dorrestijn, back at Summerfolk. I like his humor and songs a lot .It was good to see him again, the brother of………….?!
Rob van Leersum
New to Summerfolk,he was on the list last year allready, very impressed the way he played at his guitar with 12 strings.
Bart van Beeveren &Dennis Den Ouden. I meet Bart at a gig of Real Time,he made it clear to me he was inspired by the great Kenny Speirs and curious to hear I invited him to play at the open mic. Nice to see he did bring his musical friend Dennis den Ouden. I loved the way they covered songs written by Kieran Halpin and Damien Rice
Musonius, This is the man who came for the third time at Summerfolk. A real troubadour with well penned self written songs in the atmosphere of the Middle-ages. Good to have him back again. And how we look forward to his cd……!!
Simon Oak.
Dedicated to Irish folk for about 7 years now. Good to hear how lovely he played the Irish music….!!
Johnny Verger –did play 4 songs of his last cd. I really did enjoy that very much. Beautiful lyrics and tunes of his seflpenned songs.
Sheep on the boat
Just a new young band ,found only this Februari.,named after the fisrt song they played at public. And what a big impression they did make on the audience and me. People did ask to see more of them in the future. And so do I…
PILGRIMS WAY
And the after the open mic it was time for the band .How special it was they came special all the way from England just for this gig at my lounge.
Happy I was able to invite them, because Gill Loomes introduced me to Edwin Beasant, one of the members at the Warwick Folk Festival in 2011.I was very impressed when I listened to their first cd,which they launched at that time. Looking forward for a long time to finally see them at my lounge. It was worth waiting let me tell you that. Their gig was really SUPERB DUPERB…!!What a music, what an instruments, what a voice, what a good choice of melodies and what a way of playing. SO MUCH energy ,that they could even dance when they played. And on a certain point it inspired for Maarten Willems and me on a suggestion of Joland Pronk to dance too at their music. There was just enough space to do a little Scottish …
THE SESSION
Was lovely as allways…very different again, a bonus was the fact Tijn Berends of the Teetotallers joined in. A lot of music came around ,great combinated by Maarten Willems again as session leader. So happy to see the members from Pilgrims Way had saved enough enrgy fort his too. Unbelieveable they all joined in time after time. WHAT A GREAT ATMOSHERE..Thank you all so much…!And special thanks to Engelberthus &Jolande Pronk for introducing again the nice song they made for me to say thank you to me for the whole folk season this year. It did make me feel emotional.
Thanks every one for join in this night and many times before ,hope you will come back to the lounge time after time. There certainly is booked a great new season to come, kick off with two ladies from the UK at September 21th.
Friday May 31th
KYLE CAREY,
with Craig Werth& Ronnie Goodin
And then there was the second concert in the month of May.
The last concert of the season before the end of seasonparty Summerfolk in June.
For this night Kyle Carey came along with Craig Werth from USA &Ronnie Goodin from Limburg.
I was looking forward for a long time to Kyle’s performance.
Cause I really did like to fit her in last year ,when she was on tour in Holland, but because of the two fiddlers I had that time in May,she really couldnt come along.
Anyhow there she finally was, and how superb she did sung !!I did love her beautiful songs(recognizing them from her beautiful debut cd I did collect last year) The way she sung Gaelic songs, was lovely.
She calls it Gaelic Americana, interested as she is in Scotland, where her ancestors came from .With her came as a bonus for me cause I didnt expect him at first a great singer/songwriter from USA –Craig Werth.
How I love his songs and voice.
It was a delight to listen to him too and the way their voices harmoned was really marvellous.
To make this even more musical cachet there came Ronnie Goodin, original named Ron Janssen.
This superb musician Kyle did meet last year when she was touring around in Limburg. I wouldnt have miss him !
So we all had a superb night last Friday.
Happy enough there came some people along, although it werent that much, which was pity, cause they really did miss a lot.
But for many reason there couldnt be more audience helas.
The people who stayed were very enthusiastic to play at the session afterwards and so were the artists.S
o thank you very much to be there again: Richard Schoon&Gert van der Slikke on whistle, Jerry Kooyman on guitar and voice,Simon Oak,on many instruments&voice, Rieke Pronk on fiddle, Jolande&Maarten Pronk on the bodhran, Maarten Willems on mandoline&voice. Engelberthus Pronk,voice..
and thanks to Kyle,Ronnie & Craig to be there all the time !!!
Vrijdag 3 Mei
MIRIAM ERASMUS
with support act from EDIE CAREY
What a lovely night we had with this two ladies.
Because of the May holiday we didn’t have a full house,
but it didn’t really matter.
The atmosphere was lovely…warm….and great !
Edie Carey from USA on tour in Holland for this two weeks did find me and ask if there was room for her to play, I already was booked in for that moment for Miriam Erasmus, but we did sort something out, she agreed to play only a support act this time. Hope she will come back for a whole night in future.
Cause I like to hear a lot more from her. What a great singer/songwriter she is. Beautiful tunes, lovely guitar playing like Paul O’Brien said and great lyrics.
This award winner singer/songwriter from Chicago.
The backstage was very special too,
cause Edie did bring her husband and beautiful baby boy son Luca with her ,which it all made it more special cause it was nice meeting with my grandson Jack.
This all was a lovely way to start the musical night quiet early.
After Edie it was Miriam Erasmus who made the show.
Such a different style of singing ,but also very impressing .All those lovely songs Miriam did choose to sing, mixed up with self penned ones….great surprise there was, she did song special for me a Scottish song, cause she discovered I m very much into Scotland, how I loved the way she sung the “Sky Boat song .
I loved her humor and performance, can understand she is at home a great puppetshow player too.
She came all the way up from South-Africa(But just from England now, where she is touring around, this Lady of the folk for 40 years !!).
So we were all treated also on songs in African language and into Afrikaans.
A really superb performances of both the Ladies.
Another night again to remember.
Thanks to all the people who did came along and stayed for the session afterwards.
Good to see Paul O’Brien was back again and so was Jan van der Kleij and lovely whistle player Richard Schoon .
Nice to see the new bodhran of Jolande Pronk, that can give an extra dimension on the sessions which will follow.
Just for one time it was funny too, there were 3 of mine cats among the audience, normal there are out of the way for a copple of hours, not disturbing to much, but with all the bedrooms filled in with babies and stuff there wasn’t a possibilitie to leave the cats there,so they joined in and I think they were most impressed.!!!
Kirsty McGee ,with Quiet Loner
Saturday April 20
Support from Finvarra.
Last Saturdaynight we had another great night at the lounge.
Kirsty McGee came along with Quiet Loner and there was a support from FINVARRA. It all was superb....thanks to the lovely singing, playing, chatting and atmosphere.
Also the session was very special, new people came along..and again there was Peter Hersbach with his super bass.
It was a great night,so finally see Kirsty McGee at my lounge,
we did make this deal quiet a long time ago. It was a big surprise for me she did bring Quiet Loner with her.
Kirsty has a lovely voice which brings you in a special mood I think. Superb to listen too.
Beautiful love songs ,a lot of lovely self penned songs made with haunting tunes.
A very special atmosphere came around in the lounge. Very nice also she invited lovely bass palyer Peter Hersbach out of the public to play with her for 2 songs. It did bring a special dimension to her jazzy songs.
And like I said before the big surprise of the night was Quiet Loner. Very much impressed by this great sing&songwriter from Manchester ,on tour in Holland for the first time !!
Don’t forget to think back on the supportact from Finvarra. How great they played all together. And how wonderful Dieke Elfring did sing at my request the beautiful song MOTHERLAND. It was amazing how they managed to fit in again at my little lounge.
The session which came afterwards was superb too with a lot of energy left from the artists. Joined in by the musicians from the audience. Great to meet Willem Noorderstrand who came all the way down from Groningen, what a lovely surprise he did play those wonderful songs from Dougie McLean,.Good to see Peter Hersbach back again. And thanks very much to the goldie oldie folkies during the session. !!
Zaterdag 6 april
MAARTEN WILLEMS
&Frenk van Meeteren, with guestplayer Frank Verlaan.
Last Saturday, he was there again.!
Maarten Willems returned to the lounge. Again he was singing his beautiful own-penned songs.
With a poem between.
It is allways very special to see Maarten back, cause it was all around him how the houseconcerts really started. He was the one who give me the courage and idea to start and later on with the enthusiatic “YES” of Sarah McQuaid it carried on…and on….
Maarten managed again to get the audience all together into a real fantastic atmosphere. Real fans of him did recognize his songs and were very happy to sing along with him .
A lot of his tunes do have the quality they stay in your mind for quiet a while. So dont be surprise if you suddenly start singing a song a few days later. ….
Maarten was accompanied again by the great musician Frenk van Meeteren(for the goldie oldie folkies well known from the former folkgroup King’s Galliard)So it all was lovely. Very special because the was also a part for guestplayer Frank Verlaan(Maarten’s duopartner from Salty Dog)and very spontaneousthere was a new person ready for the lounge concerts. His name is: Peter Hersbach. He managed to play on his very special homemade bass instrument ,as like he was there for ever before. Hipe to see him back.
Not forget the part of Govert Willems on the spoons,it sounded great,as allways.
The session around Frenk van Meeteren was worth to stay for afterwards, lovely the way Jolande Pronk did manage to play with her whistle together with all the musicians.
Certainly a night to remember.!!
Stephen Quigg
30-3-13
A Scottish Easter.
And there he came again…back to the lounge, helas again without Nick Keir, duo from te former McCalmans, due to his illness.Stephen Quigg, who played a beautiful gig unexpected last year, did play again at my lounge solo……AND how superb it was again.Real Scottish atmosphere was there, because of his lovely singing, choice of songs and humoristic chats between.Special with a lot of sing a longs with chorus from the audience. It wasn’t a very much filled in lounge, probably because of the Easter celebrations this weekend ,but neverr the less the audience who joined in, were very enthusiastic and it all work out great. What a lovely surprise Stephen did song the beautiful Scottish song Caledoniafrom DougieMcLean special for me.And another lovely surprise that he did bring his lovely wife from Denmark:Prunilla Quigg, who is working on a cd, and did sing some songs as a guestplayer for Stephen. And how special it was they finished off together with the beautiful song Amazing Grace. It was a wonderful gig again Stephen did realize to make. And so was the very small session afterwards, nice the way James Jones, John Cameroon-Webb and his wife Anika Gerrtits, members from folkgroup 4somefolk (more about them will follow with the two other members of that group as a suppoThanks all who came a long,to make this special Easter night to a successful night rt act for Martyn Wydham Reed-this November following)joined in with Richard Schoon and Jolande Pronk..!!!!
SARAH MC QUAID
13-3-13 Celebratingmy birthday.
What a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday Wednesdaynight.
I feel most fortunate that all those lovely people joined in to be the audience of the artist I invited to help me celebrate my bithday again.
Sarah Mc Quaid, a most lovely artist.
Very special to me ,she feels like a friend, inviting me to her home, where I did spend a wonderful time in beautiful Cornwall .
Very special also because she was the first artist from Britain who was brave enough to say “yes” on my invitation, didnt know what to expect,a houseconcert in The Hague?
I first meet her at Sidmouth folkfestival 2007 and felt directly very attracted to her most wonderful voice.
Her songs with beautiful lyrics did something to me.
And how honoured I felt, she simply said YES I will sing at your lounge.
First time she came was in March 2008,she even did learn three Dutch birthday songs for it ,from Linde Nijland.
What a surprise it was then…and so it was last Wednesday.
She came back for the 4th time ..It was superb again.
The atmosphere, the songs, the lyrics ,the sing/alongs,the tunes, the guitar-playing how very special it all was.
Also very special Sarah did dedicate her beautiful song “The last song” to Lara,Jack and me.
Very special also was the fact the lovely Fred Piek was among the guests.
And so was the jamsession afterwards.
What a moment when the audience song for me on 24.00h to congratulate.
How lovely Jessica de Korte did sing one of my favourite DougieMcLean songs”Garden Valley”” for me .
Jan van der Kley –"Forever young" from Bob Dylan and Maarten Willems, who translated his Dutch song “”Kom maar hier mijn liefste”special for me into English””Come closer to me my darling."
THANKS ever so much everyone who played at the session ..coming back again Hanneke&Arie Janissen ,special from Tilburg(Folk at home) ,
Martijn Breeman with his beautiful written songs,Maarten Pronk on the bodhran,Govert Willems on spoons again.
Great to hear ” the JOHANNA” song again written and sung by Henk Dorrestijn.
Lovely whistle playing from Richard Schoon and Gert van der Slikke.
And fiddle time for Rieke Pronk and Jessica de Korte again. Thanks everyone!!
Ailie Robertson
Friday Februari 22-2013
What a night, last night….Very impressed by Ailie Robertson, the lady with the harp.
I did meet Ailie during her performance at the Outside Track band at Sidmouth folkfestval in 2007 and decicided to be brave enough to do a workshop harp she did teach.
We did mail each other now and then and I gave her the offer whenvever she should be in Holland, tocome and play in my lounge.
And so it all started and at last this month in 2013 Ailie landed finally in Holland, that was a premiere for her , like it was for me to hear a harpist musician at my lounge.
Happily enough thanks to Leo Plugge &Sandra Jansen van Galen who did gave the offer to take Ailie from the airport, cause it could be most complicated to travel by tram with a harp.
And so we all did have a wonderful night with a very special concert:
Ailie Robertson from Edinburghbeautiful playing on the harp.·
At first she was not sure if it should be to much for theaudience ;only instrumental harp without singing, but it certainly wasn’t at all !!
Like Gert van der Slikke said: “Betoverend mooi. Ik geloof dat nog nooit een heel publiek zo ademloos stil heb horen luisteren.
And: Wat een prachtig huisconcert was dat!!!! Overtrof al mijn (toch al hooggespannen) verwachtingen!!!!!
And Richard Schoon admitted by saying: “Het was nog nooit zó stil bij Karin in de lounge. Haar woonkamer werd gevuld met de prachtige klanken van Ailie Robertson. Het was een concert om nog lang van na te genieten.”
Andthat is certainly true….!!!
Beautiful sound like in a fairytale, filled the lounge ,even better then I expected,
A cocert to think back about and still enjoying in mind…..
Alsovery special was the fact, that once again there were new people among the audience who did join in at the session afterwards.
So it was super to meet Maarten Pronk at last and hear him play the bodhran, and Gwendolyn de Boer,Danny Kegel and Dagmar Cloosterman playing all together with Gert van der Slikke. Goldie oldies Rieke Pronk on the fiddle,Maarten Willems on mandoline ,Jolande Pronk on the spoons and Richard Schoon on the whistle.
Lovely to see also people from the world of the harp, all because I was able to put an article on the page of the Dutch Harp organisation.
Huisconcert in Den Haag
Ailie Robertson is a musician in the broadest sense: composer, arranger, teacher, improviser and harp virtuoso. “Her synthesis of Irish, Scottish and contemporary harping technique into an individual style represents the realization of otherwise unimagined possibilities for the Celtic harp” (Niall Keegan, 2006).She has some of the most impressive credentials in the Scottish harp world. A 5-time National Mod Gold Medalist, she was also 1st prizewinner at the inaugural London Harp Competition, and bestoverall musician at the Edinburgh Competition Festival. She has represented Commun na Clarsach for Scotland at the Pan Celtic Festival in Ireland, and in 2005 she was awarded a scholarship from the ESU in recognition of her ‘virtuosic clarsach playing’, and was a winner of the St Albans New Roots award. She was the winner of the Live Ireland award for ‘Instrumental Cut of the Year’ for her debut album ‘First Things First’.She has performed all around globe, and is recognised for her unique fusion of Scottish, Irish and contemporary styles.
Lovelyto hear Anouk Platenkamp from Faerydae playing together with Ailie Robertson.
Apity my battery was low so I wasn’t able to make much pictures of this lovely evening.
Butthe memories are settled in my soul !
How good I feel after such a relaxing evening listening to one of my favourite instruments.
